After the approval of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, the focus of the EU will be on implementation and a renewed (?) approach to cooperation with third countries. The European Commission will also have to strenghten trust among member states and in the public by managing expectations about the new system. Migration is a European challenge that requires European solutions. Following this week's votes by the European Parliament our Union can harness the strong and effective legal framework provided by the Pact on Migration and Asylum. In 2020 we promised a fresh start. We are delivering it ↓ 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 The EU will have more secure external borders, with screening and border procedures and crisis protocols as well as tools to tackle instrumentalisation. 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 With the Pact, fast and efficient procedures for asylum and return and strong legal safeguards will be in place – including better support for vulnerable people, such as children. 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 The Pact strikes a balance between clear rules for all EU countries to take up their share of responsibility for managing migration whilst ensuring none are left alone to cope with disproportionate pressures. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 A new paradigm embeds migration in international partnerships to prevent irregular departures and loss of life, fight migrant smuggling, reinforce cooperation on readmission and promote legal pathways. The Pact on Migration and Asylum is now a reality after 4 years of difficult negotiations and many more years of trying to come up with common EU level rules to manage migration. The new rules aim at protecting our borders, protecting people in need and sharing that responsibility among EU countries in a fair and pragmatic way. A lot has been written about this agreement and much more will come as we start its implementation. But it’s important to check the facts and understand what the new rules do and what they don’t. All you need to know about the Pact can be found on our webpage which now has a handy description of each legislative file explaining what will change and how it will benefit asylum seekers but also the countries responsible for managing asylum requests. https://lnkd.in/eR5s-eXy The most common questions are answered here: https://lnkd.in/e7tTV6cX
