What is the "care economy" & why should we care about it?! The care economy refers to all paid and unpaid labour, products and services that support caregiving in every form, i.e., all the resources we put into caring for people, from the moment they are born until the end of their lives, from their first breath to their last. We should care about it as it effects EVERYONE, but it disproportionately affects women: --> Women around the world spend three times as much time as men on unpaid domestic labour --> In the UK, despite being one of the world’s most developed global economies, women still shoulder the majority of the care burden - they are responsible for 64% of the country’s unpaid domestic labour versus men’s 36% --> No country in the world has achieved gender parity --> The World Economic Forum estimates that it will take 130 years to close the global gender gap One of the greatest levers that remains largely overlooked is women’s disproportionate (and predominantly unpaid) contribution to the care economy. And if that's not compelling enough. How about the fact that it is a hugely overlooked financial opprtunity.... Tech-enabled care is an exciting, impactful and often overlooked investment opportunity - which we believe has the potential to deliver lucrative returns. 💡 Exploring the Intersection of Trans Healthcare and Technology 🏳️⚧️ As a trans person, navigating the healthcare system can feel like an uphill battle. Accessing gender-affirming care, finding knowledgeable providers, and overcoming systemic barriers are ongoing challenges that many of us face. This personal experience has fueled my passion for technology—particularly in healthcare innovation. The potential for tech to improve healthcare accessibility, especially for marginalized communities, is enormous. Alternative healthcare options are emerging, and tech is crucial in expanding access to care, whether through telemedicine, digital health platforms, or personalized health tools. For the trans community, this intersection is especially powerful. Tools that make gender-affirming care more accessible, reduce gatekeeping, and put healthcare in the hands of those who need it most can make a life-changing difference. As I continue to grow as a developer, I'm more committed than ever to using my skills to explore and support these kinds of innovations.
