⚕ EIC ePitching on MedTech: breakthrough technology solutions across Europe 🇪🇺 Eight innovative technology solutions were presented at the most recent European Innovation Council (EIC) #ePitching event on #MedTech, which took place on 18 June. The event was organized as part of the EIC Ecosystem Partnerships and Co-Investment Support program, a component of the EIC’s Business Acceleration Services (BAS). The solutions pitched were from:- 🔷 AVVie, from Austria 🔷 CurifyLabs, from Finland 🔷 GO-Pen ApS, from Denmark 🔷 NIMBLE Diagnostics, from Spain 🔷 Newronika S.p.A., from Italy  🔷 Plas-Free, from Israel 🔷 POROUS, from Germany 🔷 STENTiT, from Netherlands 🏆 NIMBLE Diagnostics was selected as the top pitch of the day, with CurifyLabs coming in second. Two things happened last week: 1️⃣ a series of events that we have been waiting for to give a speech about EU funds  2️⃣ I almost lost my voice which made the point 1️⃣ difficult but still not impossible 😉 On Wednesday – we were invited by our medtech partner Medical Innovation Institute to a first from a series of online webinars addressed to medical startups at the product building stage. This collaboration aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of Rhovica’s SoNav™ system, an innovation designed to improve outcomes in neurocritical care. Founded in 2023 by neurosurgeons Martin Hlavica and Thomas Rhomberg, Rhovica focuses on solutions for severe cranial trauma and intracranial hemorrhages. The #MarylandMedTech Summit started off hot yesterday, with an expert panel discussing some trends in MedTech. Highlights from the informative conversation between George Davis, Kyparissia (Kyp) Sirinakis, Robert Storey, Youseph Yazdi, Henry Brem, M.D. Private capital is more risk-tolerant and better for innovation than Public funding in the long run, but it might be a tough fundraising environment in Private markets for the next 12 months. 😬 There's excitement about the potential for integrating medical devices and biology for applications like continuously monitoring the efficacy of drugs, but we have to remain focused on improving access to healthcare by developing devices that deliver real medical value at reasonable prices. Sorry, lasers... As an ecosystem, we also want to retain the amazing local technical, medical, and entrepreneurship talent in the region by increasing support and mentorship resources for startups through incubators, accelerators, and access to capital. VC Megadeals in 2024: HealthTech Takes the Lead! 🚀🔬 While raising capital remains challenging for many, recent data shows a boom in VC megadeals ($100M+ rounds) that’s changing the game. In fact, 240 mega-rounds have been tracked for U.S.-based startups so far this year, already surpassing last year’s 210. And the biggest winner? Not AI, but biotech and healthcare, with 87 mega-deals compared to AI’s 26. HealthTech is gaining serious traction, with companies like Xaira Therapeutics launching with a $1 billion round and Superluminal Medicines Inc. closing a $120M Series A.
