What can a storyteller do when they work in a tech company? Help the team understand the foundations on which they innovate … and prove to outsiders that the company history isn’t just big expensive boxes and dark blue suits.
“Tell me the story of IBM’s 113-year history in less than 20 minutes?” Challenge accepted. I just created this booklet for a bit of fun - to remind the folks I work with where IBM has come from and where it is going. I wouldn’t normally share something like this externally, but apart from it being a fascinating read (with some amazing photos) 🤩 it might inspire a few of you to do something similar for your own company? We’re all so busy looking forward and thinking about the future that we don’t take enough time to appreciate the past. 🤷🏻♂️ I speak to many senior leaders at IBM who say things like “The stock price doesn’t tell the story” or “People need to be reminded about what an iconic brand IBM is”… And yet when I speak to people outside IBM (and even some inside IBM), they know very little of IBM’s past because we don’t talk about it as much as we should. So - this post isn’t for everyone! I do hope it doesn’t come across as a sales pitch - that’s not my intention at all. But for those of you who are curious to know more about the world’s oldest computing company…. Enjoy. 👁️🐝Ⓜ️
