How long should I stay in my first legal role? It’s a question most junior solicitors think about but there is no perfect answer. There’s a lot of pressure to stick it out, especially at your first firm, you don’t want to seem disloyal or ungrateful. The reality - Some of the best career moves happen after people leave their first job - Staying somewhere that isn’t developing you does more harm long term - Leaving after 12 months won’t ruin your CV if it’s the right move There is plenty of firms in Manchester and other areas offering better training and progression, especially for NQs and 1-3 PQEs who have maybe realised their current path isn’t the one. #ManchesterLaw #NQSolicitor #LegalJobsManchester

“You’re too quiet to be a solicitor.” That’s something I heard early in my legal journey ☹ I wasn’t the loudest voice in the room. I wasn’t naturally confident, and I wasn’t someone who liked speaking for the sake of it. And I started to believe that meant I wasn’t suited to the profession. But over time, I realised something important. Being a good solicitor is not about dominating a room. It’s about listening, building trust, thinking carefully, and solving problems. It’s about empathy, organisation, reliability, judgment. And you don’t need to be loud to do any of those things 😊 Some of the best lawyers I’ve worked with have been quiet. Some of the best client care I’ve seen has come from people who didn’t speak much, but when they did, every word counted ❤ So if you’ve ever been told you’re too quiet, too reserved, too unsure, don’t take it as a reason to give up. Take it as a reason to look at the skills you do have. The ones that really matter 💪 There is no one personality type that makes a great solicitor. There is space in this profession for you ❤ #LawStudents #AspiringSolicitors #LegalCareers #SoftSkills #TotalSQE

Solicitors focus on client legal matters, while barristers specialize in courtroom advocacy. Firms look for strong academic backgrounds and practical legal experience in applicants. Essential skills for solicitors include communication, problem-solving, and time management. Building strong client relationships is crucial for success in the legal field. Junior solicitors should be proactive and seek help when needed. Managing stress and maintaining wellbeing is vital in a demanding profession. Networking and continuous learning are key to career growth. Ethics and integrity are fundamental in handling legal dilemmas. Sound Bites "How do you stay on top of those workloads?" "You must be dependable and proactive." "Stay persistent. You will get rejections." #solicitor #legalcareers #successfulsolicitor https://lnkd.in/eK297_iB
