Embarking on the journey toward an Executive MBA has been an amazing experience, especially considering my unconventional educational path. Initially, traditional schooling didn’t resonate with me, but the aspiration to earn a college degree was ever-present. The journey was prolonged, filled with challenges, and there were moments I contemplated giving up. A pivotal turning point was a conversation with my Nana. Sensing my struggle, she offered a lifeline: “If you change your major to business, I’ll support you to the finish.” Her unwavering belief in me was encapsulated in her words, “My boo was meant to be a businesswoman.” Her insight proved transformative. For the first time, I began achieving A’s, culminating in my graduation 18 months later. My career trajectory has been diverse—starting in healthcare marketing, transitioning to recruiting, and eventually merging both fields by spending a decade in physician recruiting and consulting. Five years ago, I discovered my passion for value-based care, leading to invaluable experiences in mergers and acquisitions and market launches at VillageMD. Shoutout to Mia Willhite, MBA, MHA, JM, FACHE for inspiring me to level up 😘 These experiences ignited a thirst for deeper knowledge. After seven years of encouragement from Angela Henry, FACHE to further my education, I finally felt prepared. The journey since has been enriched by the incredible individuals I’ve met, transformative experiences, and an overwhelming sense of pride. Glen Huff Tejas Thorat Matthew Beck, CPP Eric Gibney MD Jenny Araque Lilina Blanco Lund - thank you all! Reflecting on that pivotal conversation with my Nana, it’s evident she recognized a potential in me that I hadn’t yet seen. I carry her wisdom and spirit with me, knowing she’s proudly watching over this journey. I also want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my leaders at Aledade, Inc. especially Will Rideout and Kristina Contreras, MBA Their unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in my educational journey. I’m deeply appreciative of their belief in my growth and development! Last but certainly not least, my other half, Michael Johnston for his unwavering encouragement and support—through the all-nighters, the challenges, and for always being my sounding board when I needed it most. If you are considering an MBA…here’s your sign to do it! Rebekah McElwain Susan Brown will certainly guide you through! #godawgs #emba #terry #uga
