December contacts close faster in January. The problem is not in the middle. We can discuss what is being released, but for 37 or 38 weeks of this year as in 2019, there is a major studio release. But the problem is that there is a major flip between the 2 extremes, overloading and releasing nothing. We don’t necessarily need to see 4 major studio release weekend, but a few more 3 film weekends through the year, with counter-programmed films that are not necessarily chasing huge openings or which are heavily IP-driven would be good.

Competition heats up.. but is it enough to compete? New studios are being built in NJ, NM and elsewhere just as other states (AZ, NV, MO) are launching their own credit programs. Both CA and NY are suffering a work shortage as much of the work is now moving elsewhere.. and both are considering changes to their programs. Will it be enough? DI studios used to deliver formats for theatrical releases and satellite distribution then suddenly the scenario got changed when the whole world landed right in the heart of OTTs. The adaptation of DI Studios to new workflows and the task of delivering many formats like SDR, HDR and Dolby Vision became new normal. DI Studios now have more responsibility and a wider scope as we need to deliver projects in different formats for different platforms that too with different specs for different OTTs. #promoworks #chennai #movies #series
