🌱 Knowledge Management Insights from AgriCord! 🌱   Today morning at the #Farmer's Forum, AgriCord had the privilege to chair the dynamic panel discussion on the results and lessons learned from regional programmes supporting #FarmersOrganizations (Farmers' Organizations for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific- #FO4A #fo4la #FO4ACP #GAFSP) .   In #Asia, the Alliance manages 20 impactful projects as part of FO4A Program, implemented by seven (7) of our esteemed member agri-agencies AsiaDHRRA, Trias, UPA Développement international, Afdi Agriculteurs français développement international, Food and Forest Development Finland (FFD), We Effect, and Collectif Stratégies Alimentaires. In December 2023, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) conducted a mid-term review of the #FO4A program, which is implemented by Asian Farmers' Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) and the AgriCord alliance. 🌍   📚 Throughout project implementation, the identification and accessibility of good practices and lessons learned are paramount. 🌟 Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ Documenting Successes and Challenges: ▪ Even simple documents can yield valuable insights. 📝 ▪ Focusing on successes, challenges, and lessons learned ensures a robust knowledge repository. ▪ 🗂️ Project reference lists serve as treasure troves of knowledge products -keep them up-to-date! 2️⃣ Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E): ▪ Establishing internal quality assurance processes ensures accuracy. ▪ Understanding indicator definitions is essential. 3️⃣ Data Quality Assurance: ▪ Project partners and agri-agency members should maintain high data quality standards. Great to see the Chair of the ICRISAT Governing Board addressing the staff members and acknowledging their collective strides in fostering innovations in dryland agriculture. I remember couple of such occasions during my ICRISAT days. Having worked with ICAR, CGIAR and UN System in Semi-Arid Tropics of India and Africa for about four decades, more so dealing with food legume crops in dryland, I find scope for an holistic approach that addresses the specific challenges posed by the region's climate, soil conditions, water availability and finally access to quality seeds of climate resilient, high water use efficient and high partitioning varieties to make drylands agriculturally productive, predictive and remunerative. Therefore, there is an urgent need to invest in research and development of innovative technologies and practices tailored to the specific needs of dryland agriculture, including precision agriculture tools, and climate-smart agricultural practices. So also, strengthening institutional capacity for extension services, farmer organizations, and community-based natural resource management to facilitate participatory decision-making and sustainable development. By combining these strategies in a coordinated manner, it is possible to unlock the agricultural potential of drylands and transform them into productive food bowls, ensuring food and nutritional security, livelihood improvement, and sustainable development in these challenging environments.
