Starting your 2025 sales plan for major overhead and underground HV and EHV transmission projects? Look here, but remember routing and permitting lead times for some of these projects have been over 10 years. We need better policy and technical solutions to expedite the build out. Federal policies break down quickly on a state by state and local basis. We engineers should offer solutions built around technologies like underground, super conductors, advanced (composite core) conductors , DLR, rigorous FERC 881 compliance and compact designs (like BOLD). More capacity from existing rights-of-way is a megatrend and the solution for our immediate transmission needs. Do you agree? Thanks. Mike #pdi2 #innovation #transmission

Under a study conducted by Astrape Consulting, Grid United released news of the study underlining the benefits towards the reliability of the North Plains Connector transmission line project. The North Plains Connector project is a proposed 525kV HVDC transmission line via a partnership under Grid United and Allete. The proposed route is projected to span 415 miles from Montana to North Dakota. The study highlighted the proposed line’s ability to release 3,550 megawatts (MW) of energy capacity among the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). The line additionally is outlined to consist of two 1,500 MW of HVDC lines that will further link SPP and MISO to the Western electrical grid. The study continues to support and highlight the North Plains Connector’s ability to improve the reliability of the electrical grid and support the growing demands of electric power while continuing the utilize the same framework applied by utility companies and grid operators. #NorthPlainsConnector #Transmisssion #ProposedTransmission #ElectricPower #TransmissionLines #Reliability #TransmissionStudy #GridUnited #Allete #EnergyCapacity #MAPSearch #ENvision

Innovation is at the heart of all we do. It’s why we’re shaping the industry’s future. With the introduction of the 525 kV HVDC submarine cable technology, Prysmian is taking a significant leap toward more efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly power transmission. These 525 kV extruded submarine cable systems is meticulously designed to operate under extreme mechanical and electrical stresses and have been rigorously tested with large conductor cross-sections. Thanks to Prysmian installation capabilities, the HVDC cables can be installed in a single bundle, together with the Metallic Return and fibre optic cables. The result? Maximized power transmission for offshore renewable energy integration over long distances, while minimizing time and soil use. Let’s embrace this innovation and pave the way for a greener, more efficient energy future! https://lnkd.in/dHUSPuvm #HVDC #PowerTransmission #CleanEnergy

The first multi-terminal HVDC VSC interconnection in Europe! Completed in August, the Caithness-Moray-Shetland is the first multi-terminal high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) VSC interconnection in Europe. The link is designed as a five-terminal system for future expansion. Hitachi Energy’s HVDC Light®, based on VSC technology (Voltage Sourced Converter), is designed to transmit power underground and underwater, also over long distances. It offers numerous environmental benefits, including “invisible” power lines, neutral electromagnetic fields, oil-free cables and compact converter stations. Integration of the technology represents a fundamental step towards building a network of HVDC superhighways and energy hubs, providing maximum flexibility, power reliability, and supply security, while successfully integrating more generation. Multi-terminal HVDC interconnections provide flexibility to transfer power in multiple directions, based on supply and demand, with minimal power losses. Connecting all the way from UK to EU , even after brexit; business ties made possible via one common goal : Net Zero carbon footprint. One of a kind from GE Vernova #OSTWIND4 Obviously at zero doesn’t mean bringing the carbon emission down to 0. It is just bringing down the carbon emissions globally back to the 1990 levels of 22 .4 billion metric terms which now (2019, pre Covid ) stands at 37 billion metric tons. God knows what’s at 2024 now. All the more it’s just for a better environment is a challenge too, to meet the net zero emissions targetby 2050, while the rest of the world majorly relies on oil and gas. Point to ponder 💭 Surprising element is that most of the offshore oil and gas exploring companies do not want to hamper the revenue by allocating the geological space for offshore wind farms and rather for oil exporting reliant economies , it would be only cost wise - “more revenue generating” yet “environment damaging” to allocate that geological space to install an offshore wellhead platform instead and sell millions of barrels of oil, which is exactly becoming more detrimental, not because they are selling oil but “the lack of will allocate some percentage of the offshore water space to wind farms as well”, to cut down emissions. Is it not? 🤔 Besides, to build an offshore wind farm infrastructure at this scale of 2 GW costs about $1 billion & an oil and gas platform at this scale would generate $1 billion. So do you want money or the environment?
I am proud to share that the GE Vernova-Drydocks World consortium has been chosen by 50Hertz Transmission GmbH for the #Ostwind 4 project—the first 2 GW #HVDC #grid connection in the German Baltic Sea! This groundbreaking project will connect #OffshoreWind to the German grid, delivering enough #electricity equivalent to the amount needed to power nearly two million households. As the consortium leader, GE Vernova will supply advanced HVDC technology, including Voltage-Sourced Converters, Power Transformers and g3 Gas-Insulated Switchgear. The Ostwind project will be supported by our recently expanded HVDC manufacturing facilities in the #UK, as well as our new HVDC Competence Center in #Berlin, among other facilities. Are you familar with the FERC Order No. 1920? What impact will this have on the grid and the planning of projects? MAPSearch at Endeavor Business Media will continue to follow transmission projects throughout it's timeline in the monthly transmission report and #gis products. #FERC #electricgrid #gis #MAPSearch #ENVision
This May, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced a new rule regarding transmission planning and cost allocation. FERC’s Order No. 1920 outlines transmission planning requirements that will overall support the resiliency of the United States’ electrical grid. Examples of requirements summarized under the new order include the need for operators to provide a long-term transmission regional plan projecting a span of at least 20 years; integrating the use of Grid Enhancing Technologies; performing analysis on long-term regional transmission interconnection feasibility studies; and evaluating long-term transmission plans every five years to determine if plan needs to be modified and is achievable. Other examples of prerequisites outlined in Order No. 1920 focus on the cost allocation of the projects, such as the reevaluation of long-term transmission facilities if the construction of the project is delayed or goes overbudget; the need for applications filed to consist of a default procedure for cost allocation; allowing customers to pay for projects that they would benefit from, etc. Not only will the new order work towards supporting the reliability of the country’s electrical grid, but Order No. 1920 will further provide economic benefits for the communities involved in the transmission planning process. The announced order is projected to go into effect after 60 days following the publication in the Federal Register. #FERC #TransmissionPlanning #LongTermTransmission #TransmissionPlan #Interconnection #TransmissionCost #GridEnhancingTechnologies #TransmissionInfrastructure #ElectricalGrid #ElectricPower #UnitedStates #ProposedTransmission #ENvision #GIS #MAPSearch

It has long been clear that more and better coordinated transmission facilities have been needed to connect the rapid growth in renewable projects required to meet the growing clean electricity demand in this country. Today, FERC has issued Order No. 1920 which aims to improve grid efficiency. Included in the guidance are long-term transmission planning requirements, key criteria to evaluate project selection, and cost allocation guidance. https://lnkd.in/e6pUYjzE
