The HERO WEC marked NREL's first marine-powered desalination device to weather real ocean waters—a feat made possible by a collaboration of experts, including biologists, oceanographers, scientific divers, and engineers. 🤝 After multiple deployments and loads of data collection (made widely available for other innovators), NREL researchers are using what they learned to inform their next design. The project's lead marine energy systems engineer, Scott Jenne, shared his plan for the future: "We'll go back to the lab. We'll do some more learning. We'll understand where the real challenges are.
