Vertical lift research and development infrastructure is rapidly aging, demanding a substantial boost in investment. Our three Vertical Lift Research Centers of Excellence (VLRCOE) housed at the University of Maryland, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Penn State University have seen their facilities fallen into disrepair, with outdated infrastructure hindering progress and stifling innovation. While the primary funding for VLRCOE comes from the US Army, with supplementary support from the US Navy and NASA, the current levels of investment are inadequate to meet the pressing needs of modernization and advancement.
Today, VFS begins a two-week sprint of congressional meetings, calling for recognition of our dire circumstances and demand an increase in funding for the VLRCOE. We will be supported by our friends at ACG Advocacy and will meet with the following staff:
Rep Madeleine Dean (D-PA)
Rep. McCormick (R-GA)
Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA)
Rep. David Trone (D-MD)
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA)
Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA)
Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-PA)
Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA)
Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA)
Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA)
Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD)
If you see your representative on this list, let them know how important the VLRCOEs are to the advancement of Vertical Flight. Increased federal investment through the US Army Basic Research portfolio is imperative to empower the three VLRCOE.
