Utah's energy landscape is complex and there is big demand for more power. Energy efficiency and demand response (aka "demand-side management") energy resources continue to be among the most affordable energy resources available today. Energy efficiency also support over 31,000 Utah jobs in the construction, professional services (engineering, architecture), and manufacturing sectors in Utah and many more across the country! We shouldn't forget the importance of energy energy efficiency and demand response resources to meet Utah's energy needs. #energyefficiency #demandresponse #affordableenergy #utpol #operationgigawatt
Our Deputy Director, Harry Hansen, shared insights with KUER on how Utah produces, consumes, and exports energy as part of the interconnected Western grid. While coal remains a part of the mix, its role is shrinking as Utah embraces diverse energy sources, including renewables and innovative projects like geothermal and hydrogen. 🏔️⚡️ Read more about our state’s growing energy landscape here: https://lnkd.in/gx94T_ig #UtahEnergy #EnergyTransition #utahoed
Utah policymakers need to understand the energy-water nexus -- the fact that Utah's energy dependence on coal and gas guzzles considerable water resources, and a transition to nuclear will only make this situation more acute. Given that Utah's population will double in the coming decades and climate experts predict that Utah will be more prone to drought going forward (and the need to restore the Great Salt Lake), Utah needs to turn to electricity sources that don't use water, such as solar, wind and battery storage. https://utahpolicy.com/politics/60066-wind-and-solar-electricity-free-up-needed-utah-water
