The focus will be on practical steps to unite Industry, Government, and Investors. The event also offers an informal setting to network, exchange ideas, and explore potential opportunities. 🌊 INNO2MARE Titanic Challenge Inspires Solutions and Collaboration  🚢 The INNO2MARE Titanic Challenge, a two-day international innovation challenge, brought together creative minds from Croatia, Slovenia and Belgium to tackle the maritime challenges inspired by the well-known story of Titanic. Held online and coordinated by the STEP RI Science and Technology Park and the University of Rijeka, the event kicked off on December 7, 2024, with a dynamic training session focused on building participants’ innovation and pitching skills. Led by experienced mentors from STEP RI, the session prepared participants to tackle the proposed challenges. Out of more than 40 applications, 17 participants attended the session, eager to put their skills to the test. Their concepts of innovative solutions were developed based on three distinct challenges inspired by the Titanic story, which participants could choose from: Challenge 1: Escape the Engine Room! Participants had to design a solution to help crew members escape the engine room safely during a fire, using modern technologies to avoid hazards like smoke and flames. Challenge 2: Keep the Titanic’s Lights On! The task was to come up with a way to manage the ship’s energy more efficiently, ensuring power remained stable under all circumstances, possibly with tools or apps to optimize energy use. Challenge 3: Avoid the Iceberg! Teams had to create a system that would detect icebergs earlier and warn the crew in time, focusing on preventing disaster with innovative detection tools or improved crew training. The second day, December 8, was dedicated to team pitches. Eight teams presented their ideas to a jury of university representatives from Croatia, Slovenia, and Belgium. After two days of hard work and creative problem-solving, the jury awarded prizes to the top three teams: 🏆 First place: Team Parish Office 🥈 Second place: Team Lux 🥉 Third place: Team AlphaQ The winners received rewards for their outstanding contributions and innovative ideas. The INNO2MARE Titanic Challenge offered participants a unique opportunity to work on meaningful problems, develop new skills, and showcase their creativity. André Júdice Glória and Tiago Aires Mateus went to San Francisco to attend TechCrunch Disrupt, and to meet with existing and potential clients.     TechCrunch Disrupt is a three-day annual conference in San Francisco. It highlights the latest news and advancements in the tech industry and features prominent figures who are driving innovation and change. The event features activities, roundtables, and parties designed to foster networking and discovery across the tech ecosystem. What does it take for Europe to lead in the space race? At this year’s Sifted Summit, our CEO Barry Lunn offered his insights to address this very question. Described by Sifted as a seasoned veteran in the industry, Barry challenged the narrative by suggesting that space itself shouldn’t be the whole focus for ambitious startups - “Launching stuff into space was cool for my kids but it’s not what feeds them. It’s the application of the technology downstream that puts food on the table and I’d encourage other deep-tech startups to approach the space market in that way.” Pulling on examples from the groundbreaking work at Provizio, Barry highlighted his firsthand experience in taking aerospace technologies and applying them to real-world applications (such as driver safety) to increase innovation and ultimately drive economies of scale in technologies that can benefit both terrestrial and space focused industries. It was an exciting and thought-provoking discussion alongside Andre Ronsoehr, Imane Marouf, and Joshua Western. This underscores our growing need for highly specialized professionals. Insta unveiled an impressive drone development project in collaboration with Ukrainian partners, tailored to their specific operational requirements. Thanks Joel Muujärvi for intruduction. 🧰 Meanwhile, Markku Korhonen highlighted how sophisticated equipment is now generating more precise data, yet we still find ourselves in a “fog of war.” From my perspective, particularly here in Finland, there’s an increasing demand for experts such as ILS specialists, engineers, and data “magicians.” I’m eager to help meet this need by developing and bringing new competencies to the market.
