The Super Bowl spot that never went to the Super Bowl. TBH, the SB was never part of the plan (no matter how much we pushed for it), but the :30 version did air during the pre-game show. So that was something! We explored a ton of ideas before landing on this one about a father and son bakery. Since the spot was going to be used globally, we decided to rely on the actors expressions and products to tell the story visually. This meant finding talent that could crush the art of face acting along with locations, props, set dec, clothing and even pastries that could work in multiple markets. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many decisions to make, challenges to overcome and people needed to get any ad, short or film over the finish line. And when it finally sees the light of day— it’s such a great feeling. So kudos to the marketing folks, creatives, actors and crew that get to share their work on the TV tonight. Bravo and hopefully can get some sleep now. Fun Facts: - We created 136 unique products in 3 different languages - The original idea was a men’s clothing store not a bakery - Spot was filmed over 4 days in Cape Town, South Africa - The winds were 60mph and I got whacked in the face with a chafing dish - There is a yellow chicken hidden 19 times in the full length spot (see the full length here) Just a few of the folks involved: Marketing: Vista Don LeBlanc Bridget O'Brien Lauren Zirilli Sarah Nunes Peter Tardif Lilian Ligor Andrea Smith Creative: Creative direction: 🙋🏼♀️ & Liam Shannon Producer: Maura McGrath BTS: Ryan Kavanagh Product Design: Michelle Martin Prod Co: Velocity Films Director: Greg Gray Producer: Helena Woodfine Cinematographer: Paul Gilpin Production Art Director: Chris Bass Cast: Dad: Simon Stuart Young Son: Lucas Jason Older Son: Stuart Neal Mom: Susan Danford Post: Deliverance Editor: Ricky Boyd Visual Effects: Brickyard VFX | Brickyard Filmworks Lead VFX Artist: jimi simmons VFX Artist: Sean McLean VFX Producer: Amy Appleton Music: Verité Music, Sheldon Mirowitz Ardys Flavelle Audio Production: Soundtrack Boston Sound Designer & Mixer: Mike Secher Producer: Hillary Rider Color: Finish Post Production Colorist: Rob Bessette
Best spot ever Kim!
This is excellently executed, I watched it on my laptop with no sound and was in tears by the end. My heart was breaking for the Dad towards the end. Great work!
I remember the first time I saw this, sitting there with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes. Really beautiful!
I still watch this and get so emotional -- so touching and relatable. It just speaks to everything we were trying to do in those days at Vistaprint, and I reflect on that time often. Hard to explain or recreate. Such a powerful time! ❤️ Hope all is well!
Great ad. Always wondered... why was the name "Barrett" chosen? Was it for Sean Barrett or some other Barrett? 🙂
This work has stood the test of time. It was such an honor to be part of the team that created it.
Still some tears in my eyes when I watch this one.
I loved working on the media side of this spot with you! Definitely some of the most exciting of my memories from Vistaprint trying to get the Super Bowl fire sales with Peter Tardif and Lilian Ligor.
This just made me super emotional Kim. I remember all the hard work you and the team put in to achieve perfection with this spot. Proud of you then and proud of you now. 🥰
Every time I see this, I’m in tears… The culture we built at Vistaprint, fostered by the most caring and brilliant people I have ever worked with, still warms my heart. To see everything we worked so hard to bring to our customers distilled down to 90 seconds, is just overwhelming. You absolutely crushed it with this one, Kim (and the whole team who put this one together - 100% IN HOUSE, I have to add) - your talents are beyond enviable.
