🌱 Exploring the Roots: The Vital Role of Farm Visits for Agri-Startup Founders 🌱 As the founder of an agritech startup, I've come to appreciate the immense value of connecting with the heart of our industry – the farms themselves. Here's why farm visits are a cornerstone of our journey at FarmSpot: 1. **Insight into Ground Realities:** Nothing beats seeing crops thrive (or face challenges) firsthand. Farm visits provide invaluable insights into the actual conditions our farmers work in, helping us tailor our solutions to their real needs. 2. **Building Trust and Relationships:** Meeting farmers face-to-face builds trust. It shows that we're not just a digital presence but real people dedicated to their success. These relationships often pave the way for deeper collaboration and feedback loops. 3. **Spotting Opportunities:** On the ground, we spot opportunities for innovation and improvement that data alone might miss. Whether it's optimizing irrigation systems or introducing new crop varieties, farm visits spark ideas that drive our product development. 4. **Understanding Local Dynamics:** Agriculture isn't one-size-fits-all. Local climates, soil types, and farming practices vary widely. By visiting farms across regions, we gain a nuanced understanding of these dynamics, informing our strategic decisions. 5. **Staying Connected to Purpose:** Lastly, farm visits remind us of why we started this journey – to empower farmers and transform agriculture for the better. Seeing their dedication and challenges firsthand fuels our commitment to making a meaningful impact. At FarmSpot, we believe that every farm visit is a step closer to a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous agricultural future. 🚜💡 #AgriTech #FarmVisits #EmpoweringFarmers

I love working with George Darrah and the guys at Systemiq Capital to help build the investment thesis for system change to regenerative agriculture. It’s rewarding to see the space emerge and evolve from so many angles - farmer, entrepreneur and investor (not me, George 😉)! #regenerativefarming #vc #venturecapital #regenag #investing #naturalcapital
We made our first foray into agtech earlier this year, joining Shely Aronov and the incredible InnerPlant team. It took time for us to build conviction in an area we often hear is too hard to build very big and profitable companies. We're told it's because farmers move too slowly. 'Agtech has an adoption problem'. But the truth is far more nuanced. Here is the opportunity hiding in plain sight. Build products that lots of farmers absolutely love. 🌽 👩🌾 😍 And they will move FAST. You could even say agtech has a product problem...! Ben Chostner and I had fun putting this together. It might even kick a mini-series off... I'll be at World Agri-Tech next week in London. If you're building an incredible product for farmers, please get in touch. Special thanks to co-contributors Carl Peterson Joe Adams Shely Aronov Alastair Trickett Paul Rous Matt Coutts Rob Hues James Allen #agtech #regenerativeagriculture #agriculture #farmers #farming #worldagritech #farmersweekly cc: Systemiq Capital

Hexafarms GETS €1.3m TO DIGITIZE INDOOR FARMING hexafarms , an agtech startup that develops software for indoor commercial food production, recently announced the successful close of €1.3 million (US$1.4 million) in a pre-seed funding round. The round was led by Speedinvest, a prominent European early-stage investor, with participation from Mudcake and Techstars. Hexafarms’ successful funding round comes at a crucial time when the global food production ecosystem faces significant challenges, and the potential benefits of controlled environment agriculture (CEA) are becoming increasingly apparent. Hexafarms is capitalizing on the opportunities presented by the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) market, which is expected to reach $100 billion by 2030. The approach is to optimize crop production through AI models that reduce preventable losses.
