📢 UBS Expresses "Serious Concern" Over Swiss Capital Requirements. 🔷 UBS executives voiced major concerns about the Swiss government's plan to impose stricter capital requirements on the bank in response to the collapse of Credit Suisse. Chairman Colm Kelleher emphasized that additional capital is not the appropriate solution, citing increased capital requirements since the 2007-2009 financial crisis. 🔷 The proposed measures could necessitate UBS to find $15 billion to $25 billion in additional capital, according to estimates by the finance ministry. “UBS is navigating the chosen path well,” says Thorsten Hens, Professor at the UZH Department of Finance. A year ago, the 167-year-old Credit Suisse was taken over by the major bank UBS in an emergency operation - and a new megabank was created. This came after the traditional CS bank had manoeuvred itself into crisis, mainly due to home-made problems such as money laundering, embezzlement and business with dictators. UBS acquired CS for three billion swiss francs. To this day, CEO Sergio Ermotti firmly rejects the notion that this was a bargain – the integration risks were too high. Although UBS was able to report surprisingly impressive profits in the first quarter of 2024, it still has some Herculean tasks ahead of it. The BIGGER question is How many unsettled trades (counterfeit shares) did Credit Suisse leave on its books for UBS to settle? The Swiss parliament locked up CS's financial information for 49 more years and Swiss regulators are battling with UBS to increase its capital reserves? Why is it all so secret?
