6️⃣ And then we were 6! This week we welcome Catherine Grasso to our team. 🧐 As it's becoming tradition, she's answered the usual questions so we can get to know her a bit better: Q: What were you doing before hesti? Before joining hesti I was attending university in the US. I am going into my third year at Washington & Lee University in Virginia where I am studying Accounting and Law. Q: Why hesti? Working at hesti provides me with the opportunity to explore my passions for real estate and sustainability, while taking part in work that will make a difference. Not only will this experience be excellent preparation for my future career, but the work I am going to do will have real-world impact. I am also very excited to work at a start-up. At this stage in my life as I am beginning to piece together my professional career, the chance to view the inner workings of a company during its early stages will be invaluable in the future. Q: What do you like to do outside of work? Since this is my first time in London, outside of work I can be found exploring all of the tourist spots around the city and trying to fit as much sight-seeing as possible into the two months of my visit. I am also a football player so I am often going on runs through the streets or kicking around with friends. Reading is another hobby of mine so when the weather is nice I enjoy going to a park to picnic and read a book. I have been to St. James Park, and Greenwich Park, but if anyone knows of any other good spots let me know! Q: Any fun facts? Last Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the StartupSouth9 conference. #StartupSouth is a reputable brand dedicated to helping startups within the South-South and South-East ecosystem in Nigeria thrive. Each year, they connect investors to founders through this conference and provide actionable insights from international business leaders to drive the digital and creative economy forward. One of the highlights of this conference was the breakout session on "The Future of Work," led by Harry Porbeni. Here are a few key takeaways: - Workplaces are increasingly prioritizing skills and value over educational backgrounds and class of degree. Habacus, a Milan-based student service provider, secured €5 million to enhance its AI technology and expand services. The funding round was led by P101 SGR with participation from CDP Venture Capital SGR. Habacus, which offers educational guidance and skill certification, has seen significant impact in reducing university dropout rates and aims to support 100,000 students by 2026. New Year, New Startup 🚀 A Leicester founder has launched a new startup which aims to improve the employability of students Raja K., a former Leicester Startups Accelerator participant, has recently unveiled ServingAmbition.com. The startup aims to connect students with companies that require interns in a variety of fields, including law, finance, marketing and computer science. The internships are 100% remote, flexible and on-demand. The site is now available for students to sign up and for businesses to post internship opportunities.
