This is truly a great breakdown of the messaging process - though it beguiles the actual work & effort involved in making it work. You need to talk to and involve sooooo many people to get this perfected -- and have the skill, experience, and sheer temerity to navigate what can be very strong opinions about the "right way" to approach the topic. This being said, considering the benefits, the effort is always worth it (even if you add an external resource at significant expense). Put simply - what is simplifying (an in turn, optimizing) your sales, marketing, success, and support functions worth to you? Good messaging and positioning does all of this, for one simple reason. People know what to expect from you. So they can get straight to the point by the time they reach out to you. If this is not your experience in the sales, marketing, and support functions -- perhaps it is time to take a look at your product messaging & positioning.
