RIP to one of the two remaining component vendors to have brick and mortar stores in the USA. This comes with implications. A lot of young people over the years were able to get their start in this field because there was a physical place they could go to for parts to experiment with. Yes Digikey is wonderful but they aren't as accessible if you are new to this. With the absence of that experience with experimentation early on, we are looking at a future where the next few generations of engineers are developing their skills likely later in college and without the same intuition that comes from buying parts and occasionally burning fingers. For the sub-fields of EE, like signals & analysis, this is fine but for the future of analog and semiconductor design it is a serious concern.

NTE Electronics, Inc has gone out of business! That's really too bad. They had some interesting components in the consumer electronics market. I only had one design using anything that will need to be replaced (a fully integrated 30 dB range, 5-LED signal level indicator IC, P/N: NTE1866). It was admittedly a pretty antiquated part, given all that's possible with simple MCUs nowadays, but still quite useful and very simple to implement. I am using it in a small PCBA for display of analog line-level audio signals. Now that board will need to be redesigned, sooner than I would have liked. I have exactly 52 of the NTE1866 ICs left in stock, and was planning on having another 50 PCBAs assembled this month. Oh well. I might as well do the redesign now. Uggh! Apparently, NTE, based in New Jersey since the 1970s, was purchased a couple years ago and the new owners couldn't (or at least didn't) keep it running. A lot of electronics manufacturing folks lost their jobs. It's very sad. We need more US-based electronics manufacturers, not fewer. I hope everyone lands safely somewhere soon. 😞
