This article from TechCrunch highlights an innovation model that encourages entrepenuership. My takeaways for Sarasota County: -focus on high performing public schools and magnet school capacity in an innovation economy to create next generation of talent -ecosystem building to your assets; in Boulder it was AI -internships and mentorships; career pathways that bring talent back home -access to capital and VC connectivity -aligning with a regional tech strategy that plays on a larger hub, ie Boulder to Denver, Sarasota to Tampa/St Pete Good for the 2 young men on capitalizing on an opportunity, and for the support from the local ecosystem to build them up.

This summer, Opportunity Machine launched a new program, the Emerging Tech Internship Program, connecting UL Lafayette computer science students with local startups to fuel innovation and product development. 🖥️🚀 “A lot of times, early-stage tech startups face a catch-22: They need talent to build their product, but they lack the resources needed to acquire that talent early on. Students face a similar dilemma — they need experience to land a job, but they need a job to gain that experience. This program was our way of bridging that gap, providing a solution for both startups and students.” Read the full story from The Advocate here 👉 https://loom.ly/ndsQa4E

Anyone from anywhere can do anything. Less than 0.05% of startups get vc funding, but against all odds, we did it. I saw stories of Stanford students getting into ycombinator, harvard students getting into other big accelerators, upenn students getting angel investment, and uc berkeley students getting vc funded. Being a state school student, everywhere I looked, I saw people succeed from places I wasn't from. Even to the point where I thought it wouldn't be possible for me to start a startup. Both my co-founder Aidan and I went to Michigan State University. A school with a beautiful campus and people, but not listed in any dropdown boxes in applications, featured on accelerator websites, or even on this graphic below. It deterred me from taking larger risks, applying to opportunities, and even just chasing my dreams. But, a wonderful thing about life that I learned is that no one can take away your skills, passion, purpose, or the degree to how badly you want something. Many of the community college students I have met at hackathons were incredibly talented, many state school students I have met had incredible grit. That is why we built nosu. To make hackathons more accessible, to make it easier to host opportunities and join them, and let people know that they don't have to be someone to get to do something. You just have to be you. If you are non-target, put yourself out there. You can post that first reel, linkedin post, secretly rent a car and drive to your first hackathon, do a coding or ml competition, apply to that internship, show up to that networking event, or start a company. If any year is the year to take the step towards the things you want, it is this one. Best of luck to the homies everywhere, no matter where you come from. nosu: nosu.io #hackathon #hackathonwin #careergrowth #internships2025 #20k #classof2026 #linkedin #competitions #computerscience #cs #csmemes #computerengineering #engineering #softwareengineering #fullstack #developers #hackathonloss #setback #entrepreneurship #founder #building #developer

We hit 5,000+ users in 8 weeks, but want to go further. We're announcing that nosu is officially pivoting. Previously, we just had hackathon tools for developers that wanted to enter hackathons, and organized hackathons ourselves. Now, we're an ai hackathon hosting software! We're making it 10x easier to organize, market, get sponsors for, and host hackathons. As aidan gollan and I went along the journey, we gained feedback from 500 startup founders ranging from yc to ipo, and students. It turns out that companies want builders, and also be able to host their own hackathons. We're redesigning and releasing the updated platform mid-february --before we even dropped the updates, we landed and signed 3 clients!! Now, we can scale. What makes us different is that we're streamlining the process of organizing a hackathon, past previous software. We interviewed hackathon organizers for pain points, and are changing the platform to be ai powered and easier + cheaper to organize public hackathons. Not only that, we have a genz marketing approach with content creation, making it so the hackathons get additional exposure. If you want to host a hackathon for your company to find new developers to engage with your tools, and/or early career talent to hire, fill the interest form here, since we're in a growing state, spots for each month are tbd: https://lnkd.in/gaffUYjc And developers, join nosu.io, because we not only kept the tools and guides for hackathons, we'll also be focusing on the hiring opportunities that will come from these hackathons! nosu #hackathon #hackathonwin #careergrowth #internships2025 #20k #classof2026 #linkedin #competitions #computerscience #cs #csmemes #computerengineering #engineering #softwareengineering #fullstack #developers #hackathonloss #setback #entrepreneurship #founder #building #developer

🌟 Today, I had the opportunity to connect with Dr. Quinn Li, SVP and Global Head of Qualcomm Ventures. Here are some lessons I learned: As an engineering intern, I was surprised by Quinn's answer for how he evaluates companies. Cutting-edge technology is not necessarily the most important factor. When I look at the tech landscape of the past decade, his answer makes so much sense - no one in 2010 could have remotely estimated the size of emerging markets such as generative AI. Quinn emphasized that he values enduring factors first: the founders and team 👥. Second, great startups are led by experts in product 🚀. Quinn brought up the founder of one Qualcomm Ventures portfolio company - Eric S. Yuan (he / him / his), founder of Zoom. In 2013, web conferencing was a solved problem, and Zoom struggled to raise a Series A. While Silicon Valley saw just another video conferencing solution, Quinn and the Qualcomm Ventures team recognized a founder with exceptional product vision. Great companies depend on visionary founders - Qualcomm itself owes its success to Irwin Jacobs. Finally, a Qualcomm Ventures investment is more than money - it represents decades of expertise and experience in wireless technology and its ecosystem of partners 🤝. Today’s chat showed me what makes startup founders successful and deepened my appreciation for Qualcomm innovative roots and wonderful internship program. Thank you Quinn!

🌟 Thrilled to share insights from the latest Pathways2Tech event at the Headstart AI Software Engineering Fellowship! 🌟 We had the privilege of hearing from four incredible speakers who shared their journeys, wisdom, and advice on building successful tech careers and startups. Here are the key takeaways: 🔹 Dennis Crowley, Founder Foursquare: Dennis emphasized the importance of building products that people emotionally attach to and can't help but talk about with others. He said, "Build a product that people will be emotionally attached to and talk about to others." He highlighted that the most prominent reason startups fail is a lack of focus. For software engineers, especially in AI, it's crucial to be comfortable filling gaps and taking bold swings; you don't need to be an expert in everything. 🔹 Tariq Ahmed , Director, UI Engineering, AppLovin: Tariq discussed the future of software engineering in the age of AI. He stressed the importance of being more than just a coder – understanding how to architect solutions, work effectively in teams, and scale products. The ability to leverage AI tools will significantly increase execution speed and efficiency. His advice? Embrace imposter syndrome, as it fuels hunger and drives improvement. Just accept it and be the person who gets things done. 🔹 Julian Alvarez 🚀Ex-Meta, CEO Wisdolia : Julian shared his coding journey, which began at age 13, and talked about his current venture, Wisdolia, which makes learning more effective. He advised not to get too attached to any single idea. Instead, focus on your target audience and build a community around them. Reflect on what you want to become, create, achieve, and give. 🔹 Hamza, CEO Olostep: Hamza shared insights into Olostep, a company that creates datasets by scraping the web to fine-tune LLMs for companies' specific needs. Backed by VC Afore Alpha, Olostep offers a paid internship to one lucky Headstarter Fellow. He also shared vital qualities he looks for in candidates: humility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to constant learning. This session was a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration. Thanks to Dennis Crowley, @Tariq Ahmed, Julian Alvarez 🚀, and @Hamza Ali for their invaluable insights. And a special shoutout to Yasin Ehsan 🚀 , Headstarter 🚀, for making this event possible. #Pathways2Tech #AI #SoftwareEngineering #Startups #Inspiration #HeadstarterFellowship

San Francisco has been a crazy ride. I’ve joined X, started drinking tumeric shots, and wearing all black. My back has also acquired 3% more curvature, I learned about vc slang, and visited equinox. But in all seriousness, incredibly excited to be doing something I’m passionate about and feeling the hype within as well. Lmk in the comments if there’s anything you’d like me to share about startups. I’ve refrained from posting things on that because I’m also just so new. nosu.io operations engineering intern $20/hr : https://t.co/pNJaFDO86t (Do not dm us about the opportunity, just apply through the link. open to anyone, anywhere) #hackathon #hackathonwin #careergrowth #internships2025 #20k #classof2026 #linkedin #competitions #computerscience #cs #csmemes #computerengineering #engineering #softwareengineering #fullstack #developers #hackathonloss #setback #entrepreneurship #founder #building #developer
