Enjoyed featuring right up top of Max Shand's ten learnings as he exits Serenade. I specifically remember when he called me during lockdown to run the initial idea (bespoke artist videograms!) past me and I spent almost an hour trying to talk him out of it. But I'm happy to say that despite the often inflexible paradigms of the industry, I'm still very much invested in finding innovative new ways for artists to earn what's theirs, most recently with Impressed Recordings. Aspirational founders like Max cannot help loving music and trying to make the industry fairer, and neither can I. We worked together loads on the various iterations of the brand and it was front-of-the-pit passion all the way. One day, we'll find the silver bullet that properly compensates our favourite artists, especially in Australia. Until then, to many more long phone conversations!
