Female leaders from the grocery category’s most recognizable brands will explore this while unpacking how the “female mind” fuels creativity, category innovation and business success. Panelists will include Frances Dillard, Vice President, Marketing, Driscoll’s Katlin Smith, CEO and Founder, Simple Mills Sonya Gafsi Oblisk, Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer, Whole Foods Market VOTE TODAY! #SXSW #PanelPicker

✨Reflecting on an Insightful Women in Commercial Webinar✨ I wanted to share my thanks and admiration on the incredible Women in Commercial Webinar we had the pleasure of hosting this afternoon. Special thanks to our exceptional panelists Simone Sadler Emily Sharp Tonya Cronin and Warwick Parks for sharing their expertise, experiences, and insights on navigating the commercial landscape in a typically male dominated industry. Your perspectives have undoubtedly inspired many. Another huge thanks to Hannah Maude for facilitating the discussion, guiding the panel through thought-provoking conversations and ensuring that every voice was heard. As Diageo continue to champion Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace, events like these serve as powerful platforms for learning, growth, and empowerment. A few key messages that were discussed I thought to highlight were: 🤔 Emily Sharpe, our Sales Manager - NSW “Diversity is often thought about in gender but really it is about embracing diversity of thoughts and experiences to create greatness.” 💡 When asked what skills our panel of leaders look for in any incoming or current team members they look for appetite, drive, attitude and self awareness. Embrace your skill gaps, progress is better than perfection! ❤️ Surround yourself with cheerleaders and choose them wisely, your tribe is out there! 📢 A good leader is one who their team can trust, is intuitive, has empathy, can flex their style and is a visionary - puts themselves into the future and brings their team on board to follow. We will certainly be carrying this momentum forward and continuing to support and uplift one another in our professional journeys. More events like this to come, watch this space... #WomenInCommercial #DiversityAndInclusion #Diageocareers

Congratulations to the #grocery #retail leaders, Wegmans Food Markets, Sheetz, and Publix Super Markets, recognized on this year’s Best Workplaces for Women list! I love to see the intentionality here. It takes such effort and commitment to ensure you're creating a workplace that supports women through their workplace journey and the many life stages from entry-level to retirement. This recognition is about more than landing on a list. Creating a culture like this pays off in so many ways! Beyond the moral imperative to run organizations that support women, it also makes clear business sense. Every business knows we must understand our customers. The primary grocery shopper in over 50% of households is a woman. At a fundamental level, we need women on our leadership teams and in the C-suite to understand our customers' preferences and tendencies. From a talent perspective, you can attract better talent when you can point to innovative policies and programs that support a diverse leadership team (in terms of gender, background, experience, race, and ethnicity). Bravo for creating spaces where women can thrive and contribute! https://lnkd.in/gH2PZEm9

The representation of female CEOs and senior leaders in the retail industry remains too low, and there's a significant gender imbalance in leadership roles. Despite the retail sector being heavily female-dominated in terms of workforce (women make up a substantial portion of the employees, especially in front-line and middle-management roles), right now this doesn’t translate to an equitable presence in senior leadership and C-Suite roles. Of the 47 newly-appointed retail CEOs last year, only five were female and 12 outgoing women CEOs were replaced by men. Overall, some 90% of new retail CEOs were men, and only 10% were women (Forbes) This underrepresentation of women in top positions is not just a reflection of inequality; it also means lost opportunities for the retail industry to benefit from the diverse perspectives and leadership styles of female leaders. But the barriers still exist; gender bias, lack of mentorship opportunities, and the challenge of balancing work with familial responsibilities, continue to hinder women's advancement to the highest levels. Addressing this imbalance requires a collective effort to dismantle these barriers and create a more inclusive leadership pipeline that reflects the true diversity of the industry. That’s why, for the first time ever - Shoptalk will be featuring an all-women main stage at our upcoming event in Chicago (Shoptalk Fall), representing brands like Target, Old Navy, Levi Strauss & Co., Estée Lauder, Build A Bear, and Mall of America. We’re not doing this to tick boxes, and we’re not compromising on quality. Every single one of our speakers is invited to join us based on merit, achievements and influence. In addition to the all-women main stage, we have over 140 other speakers in various content sessions (also with equal gender parity). By giving female leaders the presence they deserve on our main stage, our attendees get an exclusive experience they cannot get anywhere else. It’s important. It matters. It’s awesome. And it makes me proud to be part of a team which is so dedicated to promoting diversity within the retail industry. Huge round of applause to Sophie Wawro, and the entire Shoptalk content team for being the first to make this happen 👏👏👏
