Yesterday I got to visit a park and ride off I-83 and got to listen to JMT talk about the stormwater management design of the project. One thing we learned about was a level spreader with an outlet structure to help manage water and where it ends up. This system works by water coming out of the outlet structure and being evenly distributed over the level spreader. This creates sheet flow and spreads the flow out, instead of it running in a single line, preventing erosion. The dispersed flow will then travel down through the vegetation and end up in the stream nearby. This system costs less than ten thousand dollars, making it significantly more budget friendly than other potential stormwater management systems. This is a great example of sheet flow, which we learned about in class. Sheet flow is runoff that flows over the surface in a thin, even layer, not in a concentrated channel.

DRAINAGE DESIGN - What are the main steps and applications involved at each stage? What agreements are needed and when? In terms of Drainage Design, it is important to understanding the intricate web of AGREEMENTS governing infrastructure development. From pre-planning to post-planning stages, various applications and agreements with sewerage undertakers must be considered to ensure compliance and efficiency in drainage infrastructure. 💧 PRE-PLANNING STAGE: Asset Mapping; pre-planning enquiry applications 💧 POST-PLANNING STAGE: Section 104 and Section 106 agreements; sewer diversion agreements. 💻 We explore these and more in the article on our website. Why not take a look. https://lnkd.in/etX7CaFS ❓ However, if you would like us to take the hassle out of your drainage design, why not drop us an email and we will gladly simplify your entire drainage design process! 😃 #Civilistix #drainagedesign #s104 #s106 #assetmapping

💧💼 Exploring Sewer Depths in Sanitary Sewer Design 💼💧 In sanitary sewer design, sewer depths play a crucial role in determining cleansing velocity and project economics. Optimal depths are key—it's a delicate balance. Shallow sewers may struggle with self-cleansing, risking blockages; excessively deep ones can escalate costs without proportional benefits. Engineers must strike the right balance to ensure efficient flow, prevent sediment buildup, and maximize project ROI. Crafting a design with the ideal depths is pivotal—it enhances flow dynamics, simplifies maintenance, and delivers cost-effective solutions. Let's strive for that sweet spot where functionality and economics align seamlessly. #SanitarySewerDesign #civil3d

A SEWER DIVERSION - to alter the sewer's route to accommodate development while ensuring the sewer's functionality in maintained. The process is governed by SECTION 185 of the Water Industry Act 1991, which permits developers to request the alteration or removal of public water or wastewater assets. A sewer diversion is required when a proposed development or construction project intersects with, or is in close proximity to, an existing public sewer and it is deemed unsafe to build over it. In such cases, it becomes necessary to alter the sewer's route to accommodate the development while ensuring the sewer's functionality is maintained. We unpack the most relevant considerations: 💦 Size of the sewer 💦 Access manholes 💦 Available land for the diversion We look at the HYDRAULIC DESIGN which needs to be submitted for the approval of the sewer undertaker. 🥸 Why not take a look at the full article on our website. https://lnkd.in/eXFe8iYA #Civilistix #S185 #sewerdiversion #drainagedesign #manholes

Why Expert Drainage Design Is Critical for Your Development... Drainage design might not always be the first thing developers think about, but it’s one of the most crucial elements of a successful project. Poor drainage can lead to flooding, structural damage, and costly repairs down the line. That’s why engaging with experts in drainage design is essential. Professionals ensure that your drainage systems are efficient, compliant with regulations, and tailored to the specific needs of your site. Expert drainage design also optimises land use, minimises environmental impact, and reduces long-term maintenance costs. Whether you're planning a new residential development, commercial site, or infrastructure project, getting drainage design right from the start is key to avoiding headaches later on. #sustainabledrainage #drainagesolutions #flooding #FloodRisk

Stormwater management is an essential part of any land development project. Basically, as it rains and the ground becomes saturated with water, the excess water that it is unable to absorb starts to flow downhill toward the nearest stream or other waterways and bodies of water. This excess water is called runoff, and stormwater management is what engineers, land developers, and property owners do to manage this stormwater runoff. Learn more about how Padula Engineering can provide effective stormwater management solutions on our website: https://lnkd.in/eV9CbPjz #civilengineer #landdevelopment #landsurveying #stormwatermanagement
