Well done Jean-Luc Chatelain. I read an early version of the paper. Thank for sharing it. For those interested in understanding Trustworthy AI in more depth, I highly recommend reading the paper.
Why the UK's artists, creative communities, writers, designers, filmmakers, composers, academics, and other copyright holders urgently need a government to do much better than the "pitiful, unprincipled saps" who plan to hand their IP to authoritarian #AI#ArtificialIntelligence vendors in a desperate grab for their money. Why does the government plan to go against the Lords' LLM inquiry's advice? And why are businesses adopting AI for equally dumb and misguided reasons? We really need to stop believing cultish tech evangelism and start managing our businesses and governments better. Excellent, as always, piece from Chris Middleton in diginomica on the machinations of govt and industry when money trumps protection of the populace and the creators within. Bottom line- great start from the UK govt, scuttled by tech giants threats of pulling resources, leaves govt spinning to justify being against creator protection and remuneration for the “good” of societal and business innovation.
My take- this deals with the crux of innovation. Why remuneration to creators can’t be done certainly isn’t a complicated problem. When mixed with a mindset that AI success requires trampling on human rights and creative processes then human motivation is at stake.

I just completed Generative AI: Business and Legal Concerns for Creatives. The insights really deepen when shared by a practicing attorney and an artist.
The case study reflections provide a more nuanced understanding.

VOSSIUS partner Dr. Marcus von Welser has written an article on the landmark decision of the Hamburg Regional Court. The court ruled that the copyright exception for text and data mining extends to downloading photos from the internet for AI training datasets (LG Hamburg, judgment of September 27, 2024, file number 310 O 227/23 - LAION). This is the first published judgment in the European Union dealing with the legal framework for the creation of AI training datasets.

It was great to see the article I authored on the latest developments in Irish company law published in the December issue of the Law Society Gazette, I also summarise the key changes introduced by the Companies (Corporate Governance, Enforcement and Regulatory Provisions) Act, 2024 the majority of which commenced on 3 December last. Thanks to Dr Garrett O'Boyle and Mark McDermott (FIIC) for being so good to work with and for putting up with my amendments as the legislation advanced and to Freda Grealy secretary and Eleanor Daly chair of the Law Society's Business Law Committee for their help with the article.
