April 28th we unite in solidarity to commemorate the National Day of Mourning. This is a day dedicated to remembering and honoring workers who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or experienced illness due to workplace incidents. This is also a day to collectively renew our commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace and to preventing further injuries, illnesses and fatalities. As we reflect on the significance of this day, we are reminded of the profound impact that loss and tragedy has on our lives, workplaces and communities. We remember the lives cut short, the dreams left unfulfilled, and the families forever changed. Behind each statistic, each story, is a human life, a family shattered, and a community affected. Every life lost is a tragedy that could have been prevented, and it is our collective responsibility to prevent future tragedies. As we pause to honour those affected, let us recommit ourselves to creating a safer, healthier work environment for all. Let us pledge to continue to cultivate a culture of safety, where every individual feels valued, protected, and empowered to put safety first. Together, we can prevent workplace tragedies and ensure that everyone returns home safely at the end of every day. Safety is for you, for me, for us. #dayofmourning #dayofmourning2024 #nationaldayofmourning #healthandsafety #construction #together #safety

Last week's Derrimut fire was a tragedy that cannot be allowed to happen again. Our CEO spoke with Channel 7 News and the ABC about our concerns for locals, their houses, their workplace safety, their environment, and their health. We stand with all Western Suburbs communities in their calls for: 1. An end of the use and storage of dangerous chemicals in the Western Suburbs 2. A full and independent investigation into the fire to ensure that it never happens again on this or similar sites; and to prioritise the safety of residents and local workers for safe living, working and environmental conditions. 3. Clear and consistent communication to all local residents, in a range of languages, formats and forums, to ensure all local communities understand their rights and how to keep themselves and their families safe now and into the future 4. Immediate treatment of local waterways to make them safe for locals, families and pets. 5. Fair, decent and safe work for all, and better response powers for WorkSafe to investigate dangerous work sites If any locals have concerns about their workplace or housing rights, they can contact Westjustice for more information on (03) 9749 7720. The National Day of Mourning is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, suffered injury or illness on the job, or experienced a work-related tragedy. Every tragedy leaves behind a profound impact on loved ones, family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives are forever changed by the loss. At Primary, we believe strongly that all workplaces should be safe workplaces. We make the safety and well-being of our people, our clients, and our communities our top priority in any work we do. Our safety goal has always been zero incidents, and we work together through every project to achieve that goal. #NationalDayofMourning#workplacesafety #onsitesafety

Observance “The National Day of Mourning is a day to remember and honour those lives lost or injured due to a workplace tragedy. It’s also a day to collectively renew our commitment to improving health and safety in the workplace and to preventing further injuries, illnesses and deaths.” As always, remember: Please stay safe, everyone. Look after each other. If you are feeling like you need help, please feel free to reach out and seek assistance. The new 9-8-8 crisis line here in Canada is a great resource. Or, reach out to a friend, peer support group, or co-worker (including your EAP/EFAP resources). If you know someone who may be at risk, reach out and lend an ear. That may be all they need. https://lnkd.in/g4SUrZCC

Today, on April 28th, we take a moment to solemnly remember and honour the workers who have tragically lost their lives or suffered injuries while on the job. In 2023, BC witnessed 175 fatalities resulting from workplace injuries and diseases. Each number represents a life, a family, a community forever changed. As we reflect on these sobering statistics, we are reminded of the importance of prioritizing safety in every aspect of our work. Behind each incident is a story, a loss felt deeply by loved ones and colleagues. Today, we stand in solidarity with them, acknowledging their pain and resilience. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to strengthen our commitment to safety. It is a call to action to renew efforts in creating workplaces where every individual feels secured and protected. By fostering a culture of safety, we honour the memory of those lost and strive to prevent further tragedies. Let's use this day not only to mourn but to reinvigorate our dedication to keeping each other safe, every day, in every workplace. #DayofMourning #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyFirst

There are many meaningful ways you can support an employee after a significant death loss. Begin by attending the visitation or memorial service. Make room for the workplace colleagues to attend if they wish as well. Even if you didn’t know the individual who died, you have a chance to be present to the employee and his or her family. Your presence is appreciated more than you may realize. Not only is your presence comforting and respectful, it creates the sense of safety your employee may need in order to return to work. What other activities have you done to support a grieving colleague or employee? #grief #support #loss #comfort #safety #watershedmoments #wellnesswednesday

Falls from height remain the leading cause of workplace fatalities and injuries in Great Britain. Last year 40 no. colleagues died at work due to a fall from height. There were also over 5,000 people reported injured at work after a fall. Remember you don't have to be at height to fall from height, e.g. you could fall into an excavation if the edge is not protected adequately! It is also stated that many fall from height accidents go unreported, so the real numbers are significantly higher. The number of workers killed has also increased, and the number of reported injuries are showing little improvement which raises concerns. Due to the fact the current data being collected on workplace accidents is limited, it makes it almost impossible to pinpoint the root causes and trends of falls from height events. We need a simple, more effective system of accident reporting so that we can identify and tackle the root causes of falls from height to save workers’ lives. Everyone who works at height deserves to go home safely at the end of every shift without injury or worse.
