U.S. households watched a record level of streaming content in the first half of 2024, up 40% from the same time frame in 2023. However, about 44% of subscribers are only willing to watch one or two platforms per six months, highlighting the ongoing churn problem for streaming services. #Streaming #Viewership #Churn #SambaTV #SVOD #Netflix #DisneyBundle #AppleOne https://lnkd.in/enn-Xrdk

Netflix – the fastest-growing streaming service of 2024, it’s almost yawn-inducing. Forbes reports that in the first half of the year, its subscriber base swelled by 2.6 million paying customers. That’s nearly double the growth of Peacock, which secured the second spot with 1.4 million new subscribers (thanks in no small part to sports broadcasts, I might add). Trailing behind are Max (+600k) and – surprise, surprise! – Paramount+ (+360k), just a hair's breadth from being sold. (Skydance recently announced an $8 billion investment to acquire Paramount Global). In short, nothing new under the sun – the king of streaming retains its throne. It’s easy to see why: four out of the five most popular titles of recent months were streamed on Netflix: “Once a Liar,” “Young Sheldon,” “Love is Blind,” and “Bridgerton.” Rounding out the top five is Amazon’s “Fallout,” which became April’s most-watched streaming series. As for Apple TV+, Hulu, and Disney+, they’re at the losers' table at this grand feast – having lost paying subscribers.

As streaming services become increasingly expensive, free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels have seen a steady rise in viewership. "There's this catalog of content that is available within the FAST environment that you can binge all day, and with recent price sensitivities, I think we're going to continue to see this grow,” TransUnion’s SVP of Media and Entertainment, Julie Clark shares in Yahoo Finance. Head to the full article to read insights from Julie as well as Future Today Inc’s Co-Founder Vikrant Mathur on the future of FAST channels: #Streaming #FASTChannels #AdStreaming

A hundred million streaming subscribers isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? 200 million subscribers. Then again, 200 million subs may not even be enough these days. That, or “possibly more,” could be the new benchmark for a streaming service to succeed, a New York Times poll of top entertainment executives found. Executives interviewed include Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Liberty Media’s John Malone, former Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Prime Video head Mike Hopkins, IAC chairman Barry Diller, Comcast chief Brian Roberts, and “numerous other owners and senior executives of major media companies.” #StreamingIndustry #EntertainmentExecutives #SubscriptionBenchmark

Keeping an eye on the so-called 'sleeping giants' of FAST -- free ad-supported streaming television -- such as Tubi, Pluto TV and Roku. The mainstream is starting to cover the trend of #frugal cord cutters (and "cord nevers") moving away from paid subscription options such as Netflix that continue to increase prices and also insert advertising into their content. https://lnkd.in/eFXcJgBT

⏱️ How much is your time worth? Are you using an ad-supported streaming TV service? Did you know that Disney+ ads take up 16% of the time on an average 32 minute show for only $6 a month in savings? That is a little over 5 minutes per show. If you watched just 24 shows in a month (or 10-12 movies, or some combination of shows and movies) that would equal around 2 hours of ads you have to sit through. That would mean by NOT upgrading, you are valuing your time at around $3/hour……just something to think about. 📺 Sherwood News did an great job covering how many ads we are seeing on each major streaming platform by testing their ad-support platform offerings and you may be surprised at their findings. 🤔 Something else I found interesting in the study was around who is advertising on these platforms. I was surprised to learn that most of the advertisers were the platforms themselves which generally means their inventory is not being sold out. I am curious as to why? Are companies and/or agencies not seeing the value? Check it all out here - https://lnkd.in/gQw2tzy5 #CTV #StreamingTV #DigitalMarketing

Yellowstone has become a crucial asset for Peacock’s subscriber growth, even though it’s a Paramount Network original. Despite Paramount's focus on its own streaming service, #Yellowstone continues to draw significant viewers to Peacock, accounting for 3.71% of new subscribers between January and August 2024. This strategic licensing, while initially beneficial, now highlights the complex dynamics in the streaming wars. As platforms compete for content, Yellowstone underscores how the right show can drive growth and engagement, making it a key player in broader industry strategies for audience retention and acquisition. A common misconception about FAST ads is that FAST channels are not premium. However, FAST ad-supported tiers can be as lucrative as premium tiers, and FAST platforms are owned by reputable studios and media conglomerates. Add this on to the reasons we are seeing consumers embracing #FAST apps. #CTV #ConnectedTV #OTT #DigitalMarketing #Streaming

Ad-supported free streaming services are fast gaining on big streamers. The platforms come with lower costs than paid services, thanks to their massive libraries of in-house and licensed content, and some originals. Likewise, people are leaving linear TV, transferring their ad-supported watching hours to free streaming choices. https://lnkd.in/gitfFj7c
