Amyris filed for Bankruptcy. 😢 It is sad to see one of the most successful companies in the environmental biotech space fall. I am grateful for the inspiration they gave me to do a metabolic engineering PhD, their role in the origin story of Zymergen, and the incredible talent that was fostered there and has gone on to do great things. To all the "still little" environmental biotechs -- keep up the good work and keep the dream alive! 💛💛💛💛💛💛. You help give me hope in the face of increasingly evident climate change. https://lnkd.in/gBKxJwAR
I don't know that Amyris had completely failed... they're still operating and situation is billed as a restructuring, not a closure. My question is, do people still believe in Amyris or is it just a matter of time before it completely folds and ceases operations?
Lots of great talent was developed at Amyris and they are still contributing to synbio. It reminds me of the saying “everything changes, nothing is lost”. That said it is a difficult announcement for the industry and there is great hope that it will be for the best and make the industry stronger and more transparent.
Alas. Lots of strong technical people there, so hopefully they find a home quickly. I 100% blame management.
It's a huge bummer. I want synthetic biology to be successful!

1yI want environmental biotech to work as well, but the mgmt team at Amyris were not good actors. I guess on the bright side, it's healthy they failed... see https://ko-fi.com/post/Amyris-Needs-to-Be-Held-Accountable-Y8Y7GME3A
