Finnish Ingenuity Aiming for Global Impact: Seeking Partners in UN Procurement The world of UN procurement in 2023 is one where Finnish contributions are increasingly significant, leveraged through strategic partnerships with global entities. While Finland's companies have stepped up collaborations with UNDP, UNICEF, and UNOPS - with Business Finland's focused support - there remains a broader narrative on our approach to international procurement. The Finnish commitment to excellence is commendable, yet it brings to light a recurring challenge: meeting the UN's cost-conscious mandates. Beyond this, the Finnish impact is sometimes understated due to innovative collaborations with foreign companies, which, while productive, don't get captured in Finland's procurement statistics. The ground reality suggests a deeper engagement and contribution than what is immediately apparent. For Finnish innovations to truly thrive in this dynamic marketplace, forging ahead isn't enough. We need strategic partnerships that provide continuous market intelligence throughout our development process. The goal is not just to innovate but to innovate with market demand and pricing structures in perspective. Too often, by the time a Finnish innovation is ready for pilot testing, the market has shifted, or the product is priced out of contention. R&D is seen as our forte, and it does shape the perception of Finnish innovation. Yet, R&D alone doesn't lead to sales success; it's the salesmanship – the ability to persuade and align offerings to customer needs – that ultimately clinches the deal. We seek agile partners who understand this reality and can help Finnish companies stay ahead of the curve, ensuring that when our products and services reach the market, they are not just high-quality but also finely tuned to the needs and budget expectations of the UN. This call to action isn't merely about building alliances but forming symbiotic relationships that enhance Finnish offerings with real-time market knowledge and outreach capabilities. The EU's #Innowwide programme supports innovative SMEs and issues grants (60.000 EUR) to explore whether the Latin American market of your choice (or countries elsewhere) is ripe for your products, services and R&D. Participating SMEs can conduct market feasibility projects for their innovative solutions over a six-month period, working with local organizations based in their selected target country in Latin America (or in Africa, Asia or Oceania). SMEs can carry out a market feasibility project at different stages, for instance when exploring or developing an R&D project idea, or after a successful R&D project to understand whether their new product, process or service might be commercialised in targeted global markets.
