Copenhagen or “Buy a Harbour”? The Danish capital Copenhagen’s name, København, can be divided into the three Danish words “Køb En Havn”. Directly translated these three words mean “Buy A Harbour”. And while the harbour might not be for sale, the three words hint at the city’s historical legacy as an important hub for local, regional, and latest international trade. A legacy that is carried on by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Councils around the globe, where we are working to promote Danish innovation, know-how, and business opportunities in the international market. Because in a world where regional collaboration, natural disasters, and political climates influence the global agenda, traditional and economic diplomacy have never been more important. TÜRKIYE AND REGIONAL NORMALIZATION: IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY Final analysis and policy proposals In the regional normalization processes initiated by #Türkiye in the #Mediterranean, #MiddleEast, #Gulf and #Caucasus there is a general trend towards accomplishment. Dialogue, cooperation and distinctive policies have been driving forces in the relations with regional actors, marking a clear turning point in Ankara’s regional approach, aiming at arising Türkiye as a key player and promoter of stability. Moreover, the evolution of domestic, regional and international dynamics has contributed to enforcing cooperative zeal by playing as pushing factors. However, critical issues remain, mainly due to the ongoing disputes in the area and to the persistent war between #Israel and #Palestine. Given the still existing potential of friction but also the expansion of cooperative margins, this analysis aims at providing Italy ad hoc policy proposals with specific and distinct regional focus related to main areas of interest. The proposals are submitted as well in the light of the already existing synergies linking Italy and Türkiye, whose strategic partnershipentangles bilateral, regional, and international levels. 🇵🇭 🇮🇹 The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic held a bilateral meeting at the sidelines of the 8th ASEAN-Italy High Level Dialogue on Economic Cooperation in Makati City, The Philippines. The meeting, held on 6 November 2024, was co-chaired by DTI Undersecretary for Industry Development and Investment Promotions Group Ceferino S. Rodolfo and Vice Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi. Both Sides exchanged views on the economic relations between the Philippines and Italy with the objective of deepening bilateral trade and investment flows.

Last Wednesday I was asked to represent EuroCham Vietnam and DEEP C Industrial Zones Vietnam meeting up the Vice President of the European Union 🇪🇺 and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy mr Joseph Borrell accompanied by Julien Guerrier, the Ambassador of the EU to Vietnam and Carsten Schittek, Minister Counsellor and Head of Trade for the EU in Vietnam. Together with jeanjacques Bouflet, Đính NGUYEN-PHAN, Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch and Van Nguyen we had the opportunity to explain the unique position of Eurocham in Vietnam as a direct advocacy partner for its members interacting with the national and local authorities. And elaborated on the many investment opportunities for #FDI #Vietnam can offer to European companies but equally so on the many challenges one encounters setting up a business in this quirky country. What struck me most is that mr Borrell did not only listen but really wanted to grasp the essence of those challenges and opportunities especially in view of the rising geopolitical tensions. If more politicians could muster this willingness to capture the reality of daily life I would think we are heading for better policies and a fairer world. We work hard everyday to #buildthefuture with DEEP C Industrial Zones Vietnam and meetings like this make me realise that the future needs not only companies to shift their mindset (we are working on it) but it has to go hand in hand with a strategic vision on that change from our policy makers. Despite his initial criticism of Mercosur as a brake on economic freedom, Milei has opted for strategic pragmatism since taking office. He is committed to speeding up the finalization of the agreement, seeing it as an opportunity to turn around Argentina's economy, weakened by decades of protectionist policies and galloping inflation. However, this enthusiasm is not shared by all. In Europe, France, led by Emmanuel Macron, vigorously opposes the agreement. Concerns relate to its potential impact on European agriculture and environmental standards, two points crucial to French economic and ecological policy. These reservations illustrate the divisions within the EU, where unanimous approval by member states remains necessary to validate the agreement. On a regional level, the tense relations between Argentina and Brazil add a further layer of complexity. Sharp ideological differences between Javier Milei and Brazilian President Lula da Silva have limited cooperation within Mercosur, which could weaken the bloc's position vis-à-vis the EU. However, some diplomatic progress, notably between Milei and Olaf Scholz, signals a willingness to find common ground. Despite these obstacles, the EU-Mercosur agreement remains within reach. Its success, however, will depend on the ability of both parties to balance their economic priorities with their social and environmental commitments. 🇦🇷 🇪🇺 #Argentina’s president Javier #Milei plans to attend the #Mercosur summit in Montevideo on December 5-6, focusing on advancing the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU). His administration views trade agreements, including potential deals with the United States, as priorities, provided they ensure equality between partners. The EU-Mercosur agreement, initially reached in 2019, remains unratified due to European demands for stricter environmental standards. During French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent visit to Argentina, he opposed the deal in its current form, citing its potential negative impact on French agriculture. Macron also noted Milei’s dissatisfaction with both the agreement and Mercosur’s current operations. At the summit, Argentina will assume the six-month presidency of Mercosur, offering Milei an opportunity to influence the bloc’s direction. His visit follows the recent election of Uruguay’s Yamandú Orsi, a progressive leader, with whom Milei seeks to maintain strong bilateral relations despite ideological differences. Italy, Croatia aim to ratify EEZ agreement Italy and Croatia recently held a summit in Zagreb reaffirming their joint commitment to bilateral relations, at which both sides, among many other items on the agenda, called for the ratification of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) agreement the countries signed two years ago. On 24 May 2022, Italy and Croatia signed an agreement delineating the boundary line of the two countries’ EEZs, aiming to permanently regulate the border in line with international law and improve oversight and monitoring in the Adriatic Sea – the northernmost area of the Mediterranean separating the Italian Peninsula from the Balkan Peninsula – which has historically been subject to overfishing. An interesting development in 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits was the re-engagement of Myanmar in this high-level regional summits after a 3-year absence. Since the 2021, ASEAN Leaders would only welcome non-political representatives from Myanmar in the high-level summits, which the State Administration Council responded back with the 3-year absence. This year, the State Administration Council sent Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Aung Kyaw Moe to the summits. What could be the driving forces behind this unexpected move? Why now?
