This is Part 1 of a two part series. Below are Summary points: Establishing a Youth Parliament in Bangladesh: 1. Utilising the political and democratic revival of the nation’s consciousness, particularly of the youth in a constructive manner; 2. ⁠Ensuring a paradigm shift (thomas Kuhn’s theory) in the political system from a cult of personality system to policy based politics by empowering the youth and giving them a platform to consider policy issues in a democratic way by implementing the Youth Parliament; 3. ⁠Proposals suggest a hybrid model analysing the UK, Malaysia and Sri Lankan Youth Parliament; 4. ⁠This could be done by reforming the Youth and Sports Ministry to a dedicated Youth Ministry, reformed National Youth Council which will enforce and implement the Youth Parliament; 5. ⁠Relevant Stakeholders: Universities, Schools, Youth from ages 16-35. #youthparliament #bangladesh

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that the Muslim population in Jharkhand is increasing while the local tribal population is declining. He accused the state government, led by Hemant Soren, of permitting "intruders" to enter the state and pledged that the BJP would implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Santhal Pargana if elected. Sarma attributed the Muslim population increase to infiltration rather than natural growth, alleging that infiltrators are obtaining Aadhar cards through madrassas. Campaigning ahead of Jharkhand's elections, Sarma described the demographic changes as "simple mathematics" and expressed confidence in a BJP victory. He noted the Border Security Force's efforts against illegal crossings and criticized the West Bengal government's lack of cooperation in identifying infiltrators, indicating a fragmented regional strategy. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey supported Sarma's claims, linking the rise in the Muslim population to Bangladeshi infiltrators. He condemned the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for neglecting tribal concerns, arguing that their focus on vote bank politics hampers efforts to tackle infiltration. Dubey cited demographic data from previous decades to bolster his argument, emphasizing the BJP's commitment to removing infiltrators. The elections in Jharkhand will occur across 81 assembly seats in two phases on November 13 and November 20, with 2.60 crore voters eligible to participate. 🆕 REPORT | #IndiaVotes 2024: Economic Discontent Deepens Ethnic Divisions Ahead of Elections The 18th Indian parliamentary elections will be held from 19 April to 1 June, with the results set to be declared on 4 June. More than 950 million people will be eligible to vote in seven phases to elect 543 representatives, thus marking the world’s largest democratic exercise. As the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeks to maintain power for the third consecutive term, its main challenge comes from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a broad-church coalition of around 20 opposition parties led by the progressive Indian National Congress. However, with some parties breaking away from the INDIA bloc ahead of the elections, the BJP, buoyed by Modi’s immense popularity, remains a favorite. Over the coming weeks, ACLED will publish a series of reports analyzing some of the key drivers of political disorder in India and their impact on the elections. *Editor's View: (4 January 2020) Contemporary:* It is true that India should have a population register which is updated every ten years. Population is counted every 10 years. In India, apart from ration card, voter ID card, Aadhar card is also available for this purpose. Recently, in the backdrop of the Assam Accord, under the National Population Register under the supervision of the Supreme Court, names of 19 lakh people disappeared from parts of eastern India. Among these missing people, the names of many famous personalities were also missing. After the Indo-Pak war of 1971, among those who migrated from Bangladesh, there were not only Hindus but also Muslims who settled not only in Northeast India but also in many parts of the country. Today, 48 years later, when their young children and their fathers and grandfathers, after contributing with their skills and patriotism, started calling themselves non-Indians and wandering from door to door to get valid documents, they got a shock - the original residents of the Northeast states started seeing a threat to their own culture and livelihood from these people and for this reason, in the 90s, the Assam Gana Parishad started a movement to expel them from the state and the then Rajiv Gandhi government at the Center reached a compromise. Today, the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party felt that the National Population Register implemented in Assam would be tried as an experiment in the entire country, but due to its strong opposition, the government came on the back foot. When the matter did not work out on the National Population Register, it brought the National Population Register which the Congress government was supposed to bring. In this population register, the BJP-led government has included such questions that will make a citizen sweat to prove his citizenship or say that people will not have the relevant documents to prove that they are residents of this place. When the census is done in our country, complete information is sought from the concerned person, then what was the need to bring NPR in this way? This is the same thing that the party which forms the government starts making different types of cards on the same subject as per its wish and spends the money of the people of the country on them.
