On November 13, ICCON welcomed Jean Brokish, Deputy Director of American Farmland Trust - Midwest, to present on the Financial INcentives Database tool. The FIND tool was created by the Illinois Sustainable Ag Partnership to address the complexity of identifying financial incentives available to farmers for implementing a wide range of practices. Many farmers are reluctant to try a new management system or practice if they are unsure of the risks or considerations involved. The FIND Tool aims to cut through the clutter and help distill the programs available to farmers based on their experience and interests. SVZ was present in the Cool Farm Alliance event of this year. Some key takeaways: 🕸️ Carbon accounting is relatively new so it is work in progress. 🍃 We need to share the cost across the supply chain to measure and implement practices at farm level. 🗣️ The Carbon Farm Tool provides us numbers. But let’s not forget about the stories and relationships in the farm. These are also very important. 🍽️ if you are not in the table, you are in the menu. Carbon accounting is missing voices, especially farmers’ voices, youth, and government officials.

Thanks to the TCA Accelerator for building momentum for systemic approaches to financing food systems transformation. Looking forward to the next milestone: the Summit. https://lnkd.in/g2W5GMNs And, TIFS will advance solutions for these gnarly issues in the next iteration of the Missing Middle dialogues, which will engage institutional asset owners to problem-solve for challenges at the intersection of natural capital and food systems.
Thank you to the participants of our 'Scaling Holistic Approaches to Agrifood System Finance and Investment' workshop. It was a fascinating discussion on scaling the use of True Cost Accounting in Finance and Investment. Key discussion points: 🌏 Bridging between worlds - how to find a common language between finance, government, conservation, agriculture? 🌿 Scaling, sustainably - how can we rapidly scale TCA while avoiding greenwashing and maintaining best practice? 📊 Data quality and framework development - can we use TCA to improve baseline data quality and availability and encourage a standardized approach? Thank you as well to our co-leads Tim Crosby and Rex Raimond, Transformational Investing in Food Systems for their hard work and insights in the development of this Dialogue.

You've all heard me talk about the market for ecosystem services. Now that USDA can be an aggregator in this market, should it? The SUSTAINS Act makes it possible for USDA to accept private contributions, use those to make "performance-based payments" to farmers for conservation, and then credit the funders with any ecosystem services generated. But what's the benefit of this? Why would a company want to "buy" from them? Why should we as citizens want the Department to participate in these markets at all? Read my latest blog to find out: https://lnkd.in/gGDXxPwZ
