Cities looking to advance sustainability and meet their climate goals need more than great mass transit 🚆 🚌 systems, as transport emissions account for about one-third of urban carbon footprints.   A more holistic approach is essential, including a clean energy grid, facilities such as cycling paths and EV charging stations, and public-private partnerships. Hong Kong for example has according to surveys the world’s top public transit network. Yet, the city won’t meet its 2030 environmental goals without addressing its carbon-heavy power grid. For cities worldwide to succeed at decarbonizing and improve their residents’ quality of life ✔ They need to continue investing in and expanding their public transit networks to further reduce car dependency ✔ Encourage public-private sector partnerships for funding projects such as transit expansion, and the creation of EV charging networks ✔ Reduce their reliance on carbon-intensive power, transitioning to renewable energy sources Technology can have a pivotal role in helping authorities shape and develop the smart, sustainable cities of tomorrow. As many of you know, I travel internationally to discuss how innovative technologies and digital solutions are transforming buildings. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to discuss the future of Boston's buildings with Mayor Michelle Wu right in the heart of my home city.   Together, we explored the challenge of decarbonizing the 85% of existing buildings that will be standing in Boston in 2050. By combining local regulations like the Building Energy and Reporting Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO) with cutting-edge solutions from Schneider Electric, we can not only meet this challenge, but exceed expectations. Our science-backed research shows that our solutions can reduce operational carbon emissions by up to 77%, setting a new standard for building sustainability. Boston is quickly becoming the climate tech capital where we are excited to bring our AI, predictive maintenance and Microgrid solutions to life.
