Hi. We're at the Hydrogen Technology
Expo in Hamburg. I'm Naomi from Hydrogen Standard,
and I'm going to be speaking to Cesare and Andrea from Valvitalia. Do you both want to start
by telling me a little bit more about Valvitalia
and your roles in the company? Sure. Good morning everyone. Valvitalia is a company in the oil
and gas market, working, since 2002, in all the products
to deliver services within these markets. The products
we are delivering to the market are mainly valves, actuators,
metering systems, fittings, flanges. But we are working on more product also.
We are delivering our services in more than 115 countries
or around the world. And since few years, we started
also to work on the sustainability and hydrogen and green activities in order to focus on this market term. So pleased to meet you.
I'm Andrea Bertoglio. I'm the responsible for innovation
at Valvitalia and so I would like to follow what Cesare
presented about adding that we are, we got a strong commitment
on sustainability, and, we are very much involved in the,
in the development of new hydrogen,
ready products. So maybe we'll have the chance to talk in
a minute about that. Yeah. Of course. Thank you. So you've touched a little bit there on your commitment
to sustainability as a company. And so what specific products do you offer
within the hydrogen value chain? Today we are already working, of course, within the hydrogen world,
and we are delivering valves. Hydrogen ready 100%
to several customers. We have an agreement with Snam
that is the Italian company managing the gas grid
within the country. And I understand that you have three
main projects going on in sustainability at the moment at Valvitalia. So do you want to tell us
a little bit more about those? Yeah, absolutely. With pleasure. We got I would like to talk about you
about three main projects. One is that has been completed
recently and, we have been involved
in this development since 2023. And it was, related to the development
of a new hydrogen, 100% hydrogen ready valve. That's what lead us, led us to be, a certified, supplier for this kind of product for Snam, and,
due to the fact that we collected, we a lot of information
starting from this project. So from the behaviour of the, materials
and so on, we decided to move, for example,
to an extension, to other products we have in our broad range of our brand. And, one is related to the zero
emission actuators. And this case, it's ongoing,
it's under development, and we are expecting
have this product in place that from early 2025. And, the second one is an extension to the other markets
that Cesare mentioned. So, you know, in Europe,
hydrogen is much more, we are much more focused on hydrogen
application and, U.S. and Canada, they, related to, a slightly different but very near
application that is carbon capture. In this case, we are also, to sustain
this energy transition, to sustain this sustainable
energy transition, we are moving also adding
this kind of, projects in our portfolio. That's great. Thank you. So final question for me. What would you say
is your main message for the industry? I can briefly say that I think that the main message
we have is that the transition to this hydrogen, sustainable energy
management is not easy at all. I know that it's something that it's quite
clear. It's quite clear
from the from different standpoints. One of the standpoint I would like to
underline is the fact that you need, to have enough, a strong knowledge
on the behaviour, on some particularly peculiar behaviour
that are related to hydrogen application. I mean, for example, during the projects
we have done, developing the 100% ready valve, we understood that, for example,
the behaviour of the hydrogen, hydrogen embrittlement for example,
in metals or, some slightly, I don't want to be too detail today,
but also the behaviour of elastomers could be very influenced
by the presence of hydrogen like swelling. Like there are a lot of different aspects that need to be considered. And that's what we did last year. That's what we have done, creating a, dedicated methodology, dedicated approach, during last project that we can now
move to the, for example, to, successfully to other kinds of application
like carbon capture and so on. And, this is not all the,
of course, it's also one last thing I would like to add
is that, as a company, we are also looking around and adding some ancillary projects like,
for example, that are quite important too, like for example, the,
the attention to the for our plans to renewable energy, like adding
solar system and solar panels and all these kind of things must be considered
if you would like to approach the, to if you would like to support your customers properly
and to approach this, this kind of transition effectively. That's great. Thank you so much. So sorry. Do you have anything to us? Thank you very much. Okay. Lovely. It was great speaking to you

☀️ Two weeks ago, we joined the Connecting Green Hydrogen Europe 2024 conference in Madrid!
While it was a great opportunity to meet partners and industry leaders, it was also the occasion for our colleague Sam de Haas to reflect on the #hydrogeneconomy, and how to integrate large-scale hydrogen production into the #energysystem. Like natural systems (such as beehives), we learned that large scale green hydrogen production in Europe requires flexible hydrogen production!

Did you know, CEGH published as one of the first players in Europe a Green Hydrogen Index?
The CEGH GreenHydrogen Index is an index for the production costs of green hydrogen in Austria and will serve as a price reference for green hydrogen in Austria and in Central Europe. It supports the development of a market for green hydrogen.
In October 2023, we took the next step with our Index:
the methodology was updated and the Index renamed – the CEGH GreenHydrogen PPA 100 Index is now named to CEGH GreenHydrogen Index and is compliant with the Delegated Act, RED II.
Why do we support the development of a Green Hydrogen market?
Hydrogen will play an essential role in the decarbonization of the energy system. Rapid integration of renewable hydrogen into the energy system is of particular importance for achieving the European decarbonisation goals. Prerequisites for the rapid ramp-up of a hydrogen economy are resilient pricing for renewable hydrogen and the efficient transport of hydrogen.

🌍💧 𝐄𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 €𝟏.𝟐 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🚢⚡
The European Commission has launched its second European Hydrogen Bank auction, with €1.2 billion in funding to accelerate renewable hydrogen production in the European Economic Area:
- €1 billion is allocated for renewable hydrogen projects in any sector.
- €200 million is reserved for projects specifically targeting the maritime sector.
Applications are open until February 20, 2025, and successful projects will sign grant agreements within nine months after the bidding closes.
This initiative focuses on advancing Europe’s hydrogen capacity while ensuring resilience against supply chain dependencies. It is funded through revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System, reflecting the Commission’s broader commitment to decarbonization and industrial competitiveness.

Reflections from Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe in Hamburg 🌍
After attending the Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe in Hamburg, it’s clear that the hydrogen and renewable energy supplier industry is evolving and maturing rapidly. There is now a significantly broader selection of suppliers available than a short time ago, providing us with more options for tailored technological solutions supporting hydrogen projects.
This growth in the industry brings increased competition. Still, it also reinforces the importance of selecting suppliers who can deliver on quality, scalability, and reliability – critical elements for long-term success as the hydrogen sector continues to mature.
I had great conversations and exchanged valuable insights with industry experts, and we look forward to continuing these collaborations to shape the future of hydrogen.
