This local grocer is a patriot. In an early morning action the grocer has labels for all “Made in Canada” products. 🇨🇦 My contribution to the Canadian economy will be to check the wrappers of everything I buy and find a Canadian alternative. If there is none and it’s not vital for my well being, I will not fund an American manufacturer. I hope that every Canadian takes the same stance in a collective 40 million spirit of unity. The executive order signed by the POTUS sets the stage for an economically dangerous trade war between two of the wealthiest countries on earth, while striking away the free movement of goods that has for decades underpinned commerce in North America, and upon which millions of jobs, on both sides of the border depend. The action is a reflection of the ignorance of the Presidency on the decades long relationship that has seen Canada be a reliable and trusted friend in good and bad times and that includes both the world wars. Is this how the POTUS’s vision of “America’s Golden Age” becomes a reality?
Oh, Hubert, you beautiful, maple-syrup-soaked idealist. 🇨🇦🔥 I love the energy. Seriously. Slapping “Made in Canada” labels on everything? Hell yeah, support local. But let’s not pretend you’re about to toss your iPhone, trade in your Ford for a moose, and start emailing from a carrier pigeon. Be real. The problem isn’t just American products—it’s Canada’s dependence on them. We don’t make enough of our own sh*t anymore. Why? Because for decades, our leaders have prioritized cheap imports and weak manufacturing policies over real economic independence. Now, we’re backed into a corner. So, let’s get serious: ✅ Support Canadian businesses aggressively. Buy local when it makes sense, but don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. ✅ Invest in Canadian production. Demand leaders stop handcuffing industries with red tape so we can actually compete. ✅ Play smart, not petty. This trade war will hit both sides. We need strategic retaliation, not a tantrum. Boycotting American goods feels righteous, but it won’t fix the real issue: Canada’s weak economic position. The real move? Build, produce, and lead—so next time, we don’t have to beg at the f*cking table. 💪🇨🇦
Here only the consumers of USA and Canada are the real losers They have to shell the excess 25% duty, or buy the same from a local or another foriegn supplier at 25% extra rate as the floor price has increased by the duty Anyhow the consumers of both countries have to pay 25% of $300 billion extra i.e. $75 billion Moreover as the inflation increases, the central bank will again increase the lending rates, slowing the economy further. It will be a double whammy for the people on the fringes Meanwhile corporations will make hay while the sun shines Very anticompetitive, inflation flaring actions
Yes.. Made in Canada
I agree
I went grocery shopping today and every item I bought was Canadian and from a friendly global trading partner. Other items might prove a little more challenging including clothing, cosmetics, appliances however there are always alternatives. Local, community-focused, small businesses are inevitably going to make a come back in this new economic era - there can be opportunity with this model. It's the only way we can approach this situation.
It's mind boggling, Hubert.
I love this if only for the signal of hope and belonging it offers to anyone who feels alone in the resistance. Thank you for sharing!
Union with the USA will make us a much more prosperous country. Lower taxes - lower prices and more opportunities. Naivety and stubbornness is not the best game for Canadians.
