Super excited (and proud!) to share that the next chapter Science is a Superpower— my collaboration with Museums Victoria is officially launching today—on #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience, no less! Because what better day to launch a project designed to change the way young girls and non-binary kids see themselves in STEM? As a professional communicator, I know that words shape the way we see the world—and science is no exception. From the start, this project has been about rethinking how we communicate science to make it more engaging and accessible to young people who have traditionally been left out of the narrative. Science has often been framed in ways that feel rigid, complex, and unrelatable. But when we reposition it as a set of superpowers—curiosity, creativity, resilience, and problem-solving—suddenly, it feels familiar, inclusive, and empowering. And the impact has been incredible—Season 1 reached 1.9 million views and even took home a Moving Image Award at the 2024 Australian Museums and Galleries Association's (AMaGA) National Awards! Now, with Season 2, we’re building on that impact—introducing five new superpowers, expanding into engineering, human biology, and the natural world, and featuring even more diverse role models (including an astronaut! 🚀). This project is a small but powerful example of how reframing a conversation can open doors, challenge perceptions, and move the needle for the next generation of scientists. I’d love for you to join us in celebrating this launch by sharing it with the young people in your life who might need a reminder of the superpowers they already hold. Head to Museums Victoria’s website to check it out.
