Under the patronage of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy, Principal Buyer | Saudi Power Procurement Company signed #PPAs for four (4) Combined Cycle Gas Turbine #CCGT #IPP Projects with a total capacity of 7,200 MW. and One (1) Renewable IPP project with a total capacity of 2,000 MW.
The Power Purchase Agreements #PPA were signed for the Rumah-1 and Al-Nairyah-1 Projects with a total capacity of 3,600 MW, with a Consortium including ACWA Power, Saudi Electricity Company, and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The levelized cost of electricity #LCOE for the Rumah-1 (1.8 GW) Project is 4.5859 cents/kWh, and for the Al-Nairyah-1 (1.8 GW) Project, it is 4.6114 cents/kWh.
Additionally, Power Purchase Agreements #PPA were signed for the Rumah-2 and Al-Nairyah-2 projects with a total capacity of 3,600 MW, with a Consortium including TAQA Group Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, JERA Co., Inc. Japan, and Albawani | البواني . The levelized cost of electricity #LCOE for the Rumah-2 (1.8 GW) Project is 4.5613 cents/kWh, and for the Al-Nairyah-2 (1.8 GW) Project, it is 4.4960 cents/kWh.
Rumah and Al-Nairyah CCGT Projects are expected to begin Commercial Operation #PCOD in the second quarter of 2028. In addition, the AlSadawi #Solar #PV Power Project, part of the fifth phase of the National Renewable Energy Program #REPDO , with a total capacity of 2,000 MW, was also included the Power Purchase Agreement for the AlSadawi Solar Project was signed with a Consortium including Abu Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) , and GD Energy Development. The Commercial Operation Date of the project is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027. The levelized cost of electricity #LCOE for the Al-Sidawi Solar Project is 1.2926 cents/kWh.
It is worth noting that these projects attracted a total investment of approximately 35 billion Saudi Riyals. They are part of the efforts by the Kingdom's energy sector to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, as the National Renewable Energy Program projects aim to contribute to achieving the optimal energy mix for electricity production. The program aims for renewable energy sources to account for 50% of the electricity mix, with natural gas covering the remaining 50%, by 2030, while phasing out liquid fuels used in the electricity sector and other sectors in the Kingdom.
In this context, the number of renewable energy projects that have signed agreements in the Kingdom by the end of 2024 will reach 25, distributed across various regions, with a total electricity generation capacity of about 23 GW.
