On this 7-minute episode of The Deal Scout, Guy Paul Nohra and I discussed how crucial it is to get introductions to VCs through trusted channels. Service providers such as lawyers, CPAs, and ex-entrepreneurs who have successfully secured VC funding can be your gateway. Interestingly, Guy points out that once you get one VC interested, it often opens doors to others, thanks to the interconnected nature of the VC community. It's no secret that capital distribution is highly concentrated in Venture. Female founders receive ~2% of fund, Underrepresented Founders get ~0.5%. How do we actually move the needle on more equitable funding? If diversity is the problem, I say: tackle it head on. Venture as an asset class should be more accessible to more diverse investors. At Angel School, I'm proud of the diversity in our community. It's a privilege to work with emerging venture investors from around the world, from all walks of life, bringing different skillsets and perspectives... The VCs are at AfroTech ✨ Attending #AfroTech has been a transformative experience, particularly the session “The Fundraiser’s Playbook: Behind the Scenes of VC Funding.” Austin Clements Managing Partner at Slauson & Co., shared invaluable insights into the venture capital fundraising process, highlighting strategies and challenges in securing capital for a successful venture fund. Moderated by Ryan Wilson CEO and Co-founder of The Gathering Spot, the discussion offered a comprehensive look into the realities of raising a venture fund.
