How To Get A Meeting With A VC?
Let's Ask Guy... He has 35 years of experience in VC, raised 8 funds, invested in 180 companies, and had 120 ipos...
On this 7-minute episode of The Deal Scout, Guy Paul Nohra and I discussed how crucial it is to get introductions to VCs through trusted channels. Service providers such as lawyers, CPAs, and ex-entrepreneurs who have successfully secured VC funding can be your gateway.
Interestingly, Guy points out that once you get one VC interested, it often opens doors to others, thanks to the interconnected nature of the VC community. Referrals truly are a powerful tool in the venture capital world. 🔗📞

Understand how venture capital investors think and act with 💡
It's no secret that capital distribution is highly concentrated in Venture.
Female founders receive ~2% of fund, Underrepresented Founders get ~0.5%.
How do we actually move the needle on more equitable funding?
If diversity is the problem, I say: tackle it head on.
Venture as an asset class should be more accessible to more diverse investors.
At Angel School, I'm proud of the diversity in our community.
It's a privilege to work with emerging venture investors from around the world, from all walks of life, bringing different skillsets and perspectives...
AND equip them with the knowledge and skills to be successful.
Hearing how we help people like Justin Bell - a US Venture Lawyer build his investor mindset is super rewarding.

The VCs are at AfroTech ✨
Attending #AfroTech has been a transformative experience, particularly the session “The Fundraiser’s Playbook: Behind the Scenes of VC Funding.” Austin Clements Managing Partner at Slauson & Co., shared invaluable insights into the venture capital fundraising process, highlighting strategies and challenges in securing capital for a successful venture fund. Moderated by Ryan Wilson CEO and Co-founder of The Gathering Spot, the discussion offered a comprehensive look into the realities of raising a venture fund.
This session prompted me to finally drop one of my favorite podcast sessions to date. I had the honor of recording with the incredible Haley Bryant of Hustle Fund. Our conversation stands out as one of my favorites for several reasons:
1. Authentic Engagement: Haley embraced my curiosity with authenticity and openness, making me comfortable asking questions as I navigate my own journey into venture capital.
2. Depth of Insight: She provided substantive context, demystifying paths in venture capital, detailing what VCs seek in founders, and offering guidance on how to stand out to their fund.
Haley’s light shines brightly, and anyone who shares space with her walks away enriched by her expertise. I’m excited to share our conversation on the latest episode of the Be Atento podcast, where we delve into these themes and more. The conversation was so great, we had to split it into two parts so let me know if you’d like part 2 in the comments ✨.
