In times of crisis, it can be challenging to bring humanitarian aid to people in need. Doctors who want to get involved may struggle to match volunteer opportunities to their skill sets and interests. And NGOs may have difficulty finding and vetting doctors at the time of need. Which is why it’s so important for NGOs to have “ready reserve” rosters they can turn to once medical missions begin or resume. H1 Connect has successfully enlisted more than 7,000 HCPs from around the world to help connect them with global health opportunities and likewise supports NGOs in their search to find qualified HCPs to deploy. 🌍 Reflecting on an Incredible Discussion at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community: Adaptive Humanitarian Aid in Conflict Response 🌍 Yesterday, I moderated a very interesting panel discussion on behalf of Direct Relief at AidEx 2024 in Geneva, where we tackled the critical topic of delivering patient-driven medical aid in conflict zones. Alongside esteemed panelists including our President and CEO Thomas Tighe, Daniela Neuendorf, Aurelien H., and Dr. Mohamed Hamze, we explored insights from across the entire chain of stakeholders in delivering medical aid, from manufacturer to patient care, as to how we can adapt and innovate to meet the evolving needs of those affected by conflict. 🔑 Key Takeaways: 1️⃣Flexibility is key in conflict zones—adaptive strategies ensure the right medicines reach those who need it most, despite rapidly changing conditions. 2️⃣ Local and strategic partnerships and empowering community health workers are crucial for sustainable impact. 3️⃣ Emphasizing patient-driven solutions means listening to and prioritizing the needs of those directly affected. 4️⃣ Patient safety and quality of medicines remains key. Navigating security, regulatory and logistical challenges is a top priority to maintain access to medicines in volatile regions. A big thank you to my fellow panelists and all who participated! Together, we’re driving solutions that make a real impact to patients in the most challenging environments. #AidEx2024 #HumanitarianAid #MedicalAid #ConflictResponse #PatientDrivenCare #MedicineDonations #DirectRelief #GlobalHealth

A past memory of UNDSS assignment in Africa.... Humanitarian help in challenging environments often involves several key strategies: Needs Assessment: Conducting thorough assessments to identify the most pressing needs of affected populations, considering factors like safety, accessibility, and resource availability. Collaboration: Partnering with local organizations, governments, and international agencies to leverage resources and knowledge. Flexible Response: Adapting programs quickly to changing circumstances, such as natural disasters, conflicts, or shifts in community needs. Security Measures: Ensuring the safety of aid workers and beneficiaries by implementing security protocols and training. Community Engagement: Involving local communities in the planning and implementation of aid efforts to ensure relevance and sustainability. Innovative Solutions: Utilizing technology and creative approaches to overcome logistical challenges, such as mobile health clinics or remote learning for education. Advocacy: Raising awareness and advocating for the rights and needs of affected populations, especially in regions with limited access to resources. By integrating these strategies, humanitarian efforts can be more effective and responsive in challenging environments

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) – #Paris – #France Médecins Sans Frontières is an international humanitarian medical association, created in 1971 in Paris by doctors and journalists. For nearly fifty years, Médecins Sans Frontières has provided medical assistance to populations whose life or health are threatened, in France or abroad: mainly in the event of armed conflicts, but also of epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or exclusion of care. Medicine in a precarious context is at the heart of the activity of Médecins Sans Frontières, which can provide a wide range of care: consultations, hospitalizations, surgical interventions, psychological care, medico-nutritional care, etc. #MSF can also provide material and health assistance to improve the living conditions of people affected by a crisis. 🔍New Research Summary: Understanding the differences in the utilisation of the emergency department between non-migrant and migrant populations. 🏥 🔑Key findings: Studies did not suggest a clear pattern. Some showed migrants tend to access emergency departments for less urgent conditions, often lack a referral from a GP and access the ED as walk-ins more frequently compared to non-migrants. Migrants are also discharged against medical advice and present to ED for ambulatory care-sensitive conditions more often. 🚑Implications: Authors state more research needed to understand migrants needs and access to healthcare. 🔗Read the full summary: https://lnkd.in/evGy2453

The statement issued by the European Public Health Association serves as a powerful call to action, urging all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being and safety of civilians in Gaza and Israel and to work towards a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the conflict. It underscores the vital role that public health organizations can play in advocating for peace, promoting human rights, and mitigating the devastating impact of armed conflict on civilian populations. It is only through collective action and unwavering solidarity that we can strive toward a future where such devastating tragedies are no longer a reality.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
In response to the tragic events of October 7, 2023, and the developments that followed, we at the European Public Health Association, led by the work of our Sections and our Executive Council, have issued a statement to address the severe situation in Gaza and Israel. Almost 30 000 deaths have already been reported, but several thousand more may be buried under rubble. As an organization committed to Public Health, we condemn the violence that has led to significant loss of life and suffering. Our statement reflects on the humanitarian impact, emphasizes the need for an immediate ceasefire, and calls for unimpeded access to humanitarian aid for all affected individuals. We voice our support for those who are working at great personal danger in international and non-governmental organisations to bring much-needed help to those who remain in Gaza. 🔗 Full statement here: https://lnkd.in/e8ycUcKg We amplify the call for actions that safeguard the health and well-being of all individuals, regardless of borders. EUPHA adds its voice to that of the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, the High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), UNICEF and other UN agencies and especially World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as The Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region - ASPHER EUPHA also voices its strong support for the work of our member, the The Israeli Association of Public Health - האגודה לבריאות הציבור Health Physicians, who have, for so long, worked to promote peace and reconciliation. We condemn the murderous attack by Hamas that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people in Israel and the taking of an estimated 240 hostages. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones and express our support for all working on the ground to alleviate suffering. This moment requires a united stand for peace, health equity, and the protection of human rights. We encourage our members, partners, and the broader public health community to join us in advocating for peace and the urgent need to address the public health crisis resulting from this conflict. #PublicHealth #EUPHA #Gaza #HumanRights #HealthEquity #Peace Iveta Nagyova Alastair Leyland Martin McKee Tit Albreht Charles Agyemang Maria Tsantidou Charlotte Marchandise Dineke Zeegers Paget Monica Georgiana Brînzac Nadav Davidovitch Eric Breton Elena Petelos Arjan van der Star, Ph.D., M.Sc. I’m excited to share a recent article based on Karina Davitian's thesis. It sheds light on a pressing issue: the healthcare challenges faced by Ukrainian refugees and migrants in Germany. As the ongoing war in Ukraine continues to drive the influx of over 1 million Ukrainians with exceptional legal status, the demand on German healthcare services is increasingly significant. This study explores the obstacles these individuals encounter in navigating the healthcare system, highlighting the urgent need for effective integration strategies. Understanding these barriers is crucial for policymakers and healthcare providers to ensure that this vulnerable population receives the support they need. I encourage everyone to read the full article to gain insights into how we can collectively enhance the healthcare experience for Ukrainian refugees and migrants within the German healthcare system. #Healthcare #Refugees #UkrainianCrisis #Integration #PublicHealth #Germany https://lnkd.in/d_Jda669

Join the NL Pavilion at China Aid! 🧓🏼 The Consulate General of the Netherlands in Shanghai invites you to join our Netherlands Pavilion at ‘The International Exhibition of Senior Care, Rehabilitation Medicine and Healthcare’ (China Aid) in Shanghai from 13th-15th June 2024. The Silver Economy Last year in October, Minister Conny Helder visited China with an expert delegation on senior and dementia care. We’re delighted to see that the needs for international exchange and partnership in this sector are unwavering and dynamic. China's silver economy is estimated at around 7 trillion yuan (about 974 billion U.S. dollars) in size and is expected to reach 30 trillion yuan by 2035. However, the elderly care products and services currently available on the market are not practical enough for senior citizens. China has pledged to provide more products and services to senior citizens and further develop the silver economy in response to challenges presented by an aging population that is still expanding. In China there seems to be a transformation to the “new” elderly generation in recent years, that is, instead of leading a home-centered lifestyle and devoting themselves to raising grandchildren, many of them start to look for and enjoy a more independent and quality golden years. Details of the NL Pavilion We have reserved 72sqm for our country pavilion with possibility to expand. You will not just be exhibiting products on the three days, the Consulate General, together with the organization committee, aims for online and offline publicity campaigns for all participants. What kind of participants are we looking for? - Eldercare and senior home facilities - Elder medical devices and technology - Elder products and lifestyle needs - Culture and entertainment for the elderly And so on…. What do you need to do? - Staffing the company booth throughout the whole event - Logistics arrangement for your company booth (e.g. transportation and accommodation etc.) - Supply your promotion materials (digital & physical) as required Consulate General will take care of the exterior design and construction of the Pavilion and facilitation of side events. More information about for example the costs can be found in the attached file. Please note the space will be limited. Deadline for registration: 27th of April. Do you have any further questions or are you ready to register? Send an e-mail to our project lead Joyce Guan [email protected].
