Enterprise L&D: I am guilty of yammering on and on about L&D’s philosophies, processes, and practices, and THIS is what I've been talking about - a framework for L&D Processes that I first developed back in the late 1980s for a client project.

Enterprise L&D: Getting your L&D Content "How To" to enable Performance back on the job is one challenge. And if that Performance isn't performed often enough, it may quickly be forgotten. Perhaps Stand-Alone or Embedded Performance Guides were called for.

Enterprise L&D: This framework began as a consulting effort for an L&D client in the late 1980s who were being challenged by their internal customers to "show their process maps" when the L&D content we were producing began promoting a process orientation. Fair enough.

If you've been here a while, you know we love process documentation. And in big organizations with tons of employees, it is crucial you get everyone on the same page. Process documentation mitigates the risk associated with the dependence on individual knowledge. When processes are comprehensively documented, the organization and employees become less vulnerable to disruptions caused by the absences or departures of specific knowledge holders. It takes the knowledge out of someone’s head – and puts it within the processes. Moreover, processes help identify potential pitfalls and properly equip you to proactively address challenges before they escalate to all-hands-on-deck fires. If you want to harness the unlimited potential of process documentation, elevate each team member, and collectively contribute to the success of the organization, we'd love to chat with you. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3W7Pf2f

Enterprise L&D: Performance Based Instruction addresses the HOW TO PERFORM in the typical Performance Contexts and situations - and that's generally not Rote. Is your L&D addressing Performance Requirements from back on the job as if it were Rote?

What I've found: Documenting a working process can be invaluable for repeating successful actions in the future. I've personally used MY OWN PROCESS DOCUMENTS later when I couldn't recall all the details of a working process months down the road!

It's the results that matter not the tools.
I help SMBs & startups improve & scale their operations through technology & focused continuous improvement | I talk about entrepreneurship, continuous improvement, & career changes later in life
For a group that preaches about tearing down silos in businesses, the continuous improvement community sure loves to build those silos around their particular brand of improvement. All techniques have plusses and minuses. We should be striving to have as many tools in our toolbox as possible, not bickering over whose methodology is better. It's like Desperate Housewives sometimes. Celebrate people wanting to make things better, not arguing over why you think the way they go about it sucks.
