The Scaling Paradox: Why Systems Both Enable and Limit Growth Every business faces this tension: systematize to scale, or customize to serve more deeply? Here's the catch-22 I've discovered after years of helping businesses grow: When you build scalable systems, you necessarily limit who you can serve. Your frameworks become more efficient but less flexible. I learned this the hard way years ago - built a SaaS platform for resort developers, and kept saying "yes" to feature requests until we'd customized ourselves right out of our market. We gained depth but lost breadth. Conversely, when you customize solutions for each client, you can help almost anyone - but you're trapped by time and energy constraints. You either price yourself out of reach or burn out trying to serve everyone. The solution isn't choosing between systems or customization. It's building what John List calls "Voltage" - systems that maintain their power as they scale. Start with the simplest, most universal solution. Then create branches for specific situations. The key insight? Scale requires saying no more often than yes. But those "yes" moments become exponentially more impactful. Curious: How do you balance systematization vs customization in your business? #BusinessScaling #StrategicPlanning #LeadershipLessons

Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention. Perhaps adversity is the mother of necessity? In business, having to do more with less can be painful, but it can and should also be a spur to reexamining old habits, tools and procedures. That's where I am this month. "This is good enough" giving way to, "Can I make this better?" "I think I know this" might have worked yesterday. "What else can this do?" is a better question now. Our business, like many others, rely on SaaS now. Am I up on all the tools available to us? Am I tuned in to the right channels to keep up with the changes? So on and so on. And at the core of it all, am I asking the right questions? If you see me talking to a skull at length, though, throw something at me!

Modern SaaS should be like the story of Goldielocks - without the horrid ending! The 5 pillars of ‘Goldielocks Technology...' ➡ Usability: Technology that helps entire organizations, is technology that helps teams "run at the pace of the slowest runner." End users should be able to do what they need, while still allowing admins and super users to thrive. ➡ Accessibility: Technology should break down silo’s not create them! Teams that work together, win together. ➡ Democratization of Process: Nobody is a universal process expert. Technology that’s built the right way can help people be better at a process than they have ever been before without having to learn it. ➡ Affordability: Getting everyone on the same page shouldn’t break the bank. Budgets are under pressure, so technology that leaves $ in the budget for the people to run it is vital. ➡ Adoptability: The work shouldn’t be in standing the technology up, but in using it to get your work done! The days of lengthy implementations are over because time to value and adoption are inextricably linked. In short... we are at a moment in time where teams don’t need too much, don’t need to little - but are looking for what’s “just right!” Because just right is good enough, and good enough means we move forwards at pace. Agree/ Disagree? Who are your favorite Goldielocks Technology platforms? What do they do so well? What am I missing?

The advent of a successful SaaS product can transform an entrepreneur's life in profound ways, particularly in financial terms. Picture a scenario where a SaaS product meets a pressing market need—suddenly, the recurring revenue model intrinsic to SaaS businesses starts generating consistent income. This income isn't just substantial; it's also predictable, offering a stark contrast to the feast-or-famine revenue cycles typical of traditional business models. For the owner, this means not just wealth, but more importantly, financial stability and the freedom to scale the business without the constant worry of cash flow. #DevTools #CodeNewbies #WebDevelopment #JavaScriptTips #OpenSourceProjects #TechTutorials #ProgrammingLanguages #BackendDevelopment #FrontendFrameworks #FullStackDeveloper #SoftwareEngineering #MobileAppDev #CloudComputing #DevOpsTools #MachineLearning #APIIntegration #ReactNativeDev #PythonProgramming #UIUXDesign #DatabaseManagement
