Here’s 8 things I evaluate when interviewing a customer success manager: Call points: Are they comfortable calling into C level execs? Do they have smb, mid-market, or enterprise experience? Industry experience? Saas, fintech, healthcare, etc. Do they have experience upselling? (If applicable) What is their average book of business? What is their average number of clients? Do they service 10 enterprise clients or 150 smb clients? Tools: are they comfortable using tools like salesforce and zendesk. Do they have a strong phone presence? #hiring #recruiting #customersuccess

When is the right time to hire a Customer Success Manager? Too early, and you might not have enough customers to justify the role. Too late, and you’re already losing customers who could have been saved. Here’s when to seriously consider hiring a CSM: 🚀 You’ve hit product-market fit, and retention is now a key priority. 📉 Customers are churning because they’re not seeing enough value. 📈 Your sales team is closing deals, but customer adoption is lagging. 💰 You want to drive expansion revenue through upsells and cross-sells. 📊 You need structured onboarding, engagement, and advocacy programs. A Customer Success Manager isn’t just there to reduce churn—they’re a revenue driver. They ensure customers see long-term value, increasing retention, satisfaction, and expansion. If you’re scaling your SaaS business, don’t wait until churn becomes a crisis. Hire early, and set your customers—and your company—up for success. What’s your take? When do you think a company should hire its first CSM? #CustomerSuccess #CSM #SaaS #CustomerRetention #Growth #B2B #CustomerExperience #ScalingSaaS

Beyond finding and closing deals, a role in tech sales can be a gateway to numerous other positions within a tech company which might better align with ones goals and needs. The most common ones are: 1) Sales Leadership: As soon as reps get really good at their own roles, they often get advanced into sales leadership positions such as Sales Manager, Director of Sales, or even Vice President of Sales. 2) Customer Success: Customer success roles allows sales professionals to continue nurturing these relationships post-sale, ensuring customer satisfaction, retention, and upsell opportunities. 3) Sales Operations: Tech sales professionals with strong analytical and organizational skills can excel in these roles, streamlining workflows and implementing tools to enhance sales efficiency. 4) Account Management: Transitioning into account management roles allows sales professionals to take ownership of key client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for ongoing support, upselling, and cross-selling opportunities. 5) Partnerships: Tech companies often rely on strategic partnerships and alliances to expand their reach and offerings.
