Bottom Line Americans’ rating of the quality of U.S. healthcare has fallen to the lowest reading in 24 years, and views of healthcare coverage nationally remain broadly negative. These views likely play into the belief that the U.S. healthcare system has major problems or is in a deep state of crisis. Cost is named as the most urgent healthcare problem in the country. Despite their widespread negativity when it comes to healthcare in the U.S., Americans largely rate their own healthcare positively.

Healthcare quality is declining but costs continue to rise. Just 19% of American adults are satisfied with healthcare costs, and only 44% say care quality is excellent or good, according to a new survey conducted by Gallup this past November. However, the healthcare system can be more effective, efficient, and affordable—the Center is committed to making this a reality. Read the survey findings: #Healthcare #HealthSpending

The latest Gallup poll shows that Americans view of healthcare quality is at an all-time low. But it's important to remember there is a big difference between views of the healthcare system at large, and the relationship between individual patients and their providers. Most people really like their doctors and care teams, particularly when they feel supported. As the poll finds, "In contrast to their largely negative assessments of the quality and coverage of healthcare in the U.S., broad majorities of Americans continue to rate their own healthcare’s quality and coverage positively. Currently, 71% of U.S. adults consider the quality of healthcare they receive to be excellent or good, and 65% say the same of their own coverage." These results from Gallup are a wakeup call for everybody in healthcare. American’s views of healthcare quality and cost are at their lowest point in decades, and they’re not wrong. We need to get to the root of the problem and focus on solutions that address these two core issues—high costs and suboptimal quality—to make a real difference for patients. https://lnkd.in/gqAsr2bm

Significant warning signs in Gallup’s annual Health and Healthcare poll. Americans' positive rating of the quality of healthcare in the U.S. is at its lowest point in 24 years of trend tracking. Americans rate healthcare coverage in the U.S. even more negatively than they rate quality of care. Barely 28 percent say their healthcare coverage is excellent or good. That’s four points lower than the average since Gallup began trend tracking in 2001 and well below the 41 percent high point in 2012. It gets even worse on perception of healthcare costs, where nearly 80 percent of Americans express some levels of dissatisfaction. Another low end for the measure over two decades. It’s clear those of us in healthcare have a lot more work to do. The coverage, care and cost hurdles are even higher amid heath disparities, staffing shortages and concerning levels of medical professional burnout. #healthcare #Gallup #healthcarequality #healthcarecost #GoingforZero https://lnkd.in/gsDcXcdU

It probably does not surprise you that Gallup's annual health care poll shares that Americans’ rating of the quality of U.S. healthcare has fallen to the lowest reading in 24 years. Their annual review continues that the majority of the country has the belief that "the U.S. healthcare system has major problems or is in a deep state of crisis. " "Cost is named as the most urgent healthcare problem in the country." "Despite their widespread negativity when it comes to healthcare in the U.S., Americans largely rate their own healthcare positively. 71% of respondents rated their own health care quality as excellent or good, and 65% rated their health coverage similarly. " These two pockets of results from the same group polled seem to contradict. What do you think? What would you change about the healthcare system if you could? What do you like about the healthcare system in the United States?

We have long understood that our healthcare system has been strained by the cost of care rather than the volume of care. When implemented correctly, value-based care is the most effective way to address both access and affordability.
