Reflection on the Overuse of AI Labels in Emerging Health Technology After attending the APTA Private Practice meeting, I couldn’t help but notice the growing number of AI systems being marketed by nearly every vendor, targeting every possible domain in healthcare. But this brings up an essential question: What is AI? And, more importantly, from the end-users' perspective, what defines AI regarding their specific needs? In a vastly oversimplified way, AI is machine intelligence. It has unique strengths that will be explored and discussed at length in the future. At its core, AI/LLM is a form of data processing, distinct from organic systems. Yes, you as a human are also an organic system, essentially an organic machine with the primary responsibility of processing data to optimize survival. The optimal path for AI and HI (Human Intelligence) to coexist and thrive is to recognize each system's unique strengths and create workflows that allow humans to build value and optimize care. Through conversations with friends and colleagues experienced in both clinical and business aspects of the field, one thing has become clear: healthcare professionals are already managing an overwhelming amount of information.
