A recent article by The Daily Mail highlights the alarming findings from the Channel 4 Dispatches documentary, Britain's Shoplifting Gangs Exposed. The documentary reveals how retailers across the UK are increasingly being targeted by sophisticated Organised Retail Crime (ORC) gangs. Pushouts are an increasingly common and costly form of retail theft, where criminals orchestrate large-scale theft operations and walk out of stores with unpaid goods in shopping trolleys. This type of theft not only results in significant financial losses but also disrupts daily operations for retailers. To address this growing challenge, we're offering innovative solutions like our Purchek® technology that stops theft in a safe, non-confrontational way. 🛒 ❗ By combining advanced technology, staff training, and visible deterrents, retailers can better protect their stores while ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers. Well done to Rachel the TSS Crime and Investigations Manager for piecing it all together. 👍
Although I feel the system may catch opportunistic trolley push outs and those who forget they have paid for their shopping trolley, it won't stop organised crime, as they will simply lift it over the system, or just go to using large rucksacks and bags. There is also a health and safety concern, such as if a trolley is stopped, and a customer falls over. Also - they can also leave checkouts and go straight back into the store, which is what they will do. They will pay for one item, then go back into the store and then bulk lift items, and then freely leave. Its unfortunate that those in the industry with years of experience are being out-voiced by people who have never worked in retail security, but this is where we are at.
