Smart Meters are transforming the utilities landscape and reshaping business models by providing detailed, real-time data on electricity consumption. This vast amount of information offers valuable insights into consumption patterns, grid health, and customer behavior. However, managing the sheer volume and velocity of this data presents significant challenges. To harness the full potential of smart metering systems, implementing a robust data management framework is critical. Key dimensions to focus on include: 🔸𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Define clear policies, ownership, and standards to manage data as a strategic asset while ensuring compliance. 🔸 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Develop scalable infrastructure for the efficient collection, storage, and analysis of smart meter data. 🔸𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Protect sensitive customer data with encryption, access controls, and regular security audits. 🔸𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Enable seamless sharing and interoperability of data across systems for comprehensive insights. 🔸𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Ensure data accuracy and reliability through validation, cleansing, and monitoring. 🔸𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Maintain context with data dictionaries, catalogs, and lineage tracking for easier discovery and understanding. 🔸𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: Implement scalable and cost-effective solutions for managing high-volume data efficiently. 🔸𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Leverage data warehousing and analytics tools to generate actionable insights for better decision-making. 🔸𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Maintain consistency in critical data like customer records and meter identifiers. 🔸𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Organize unstructured data and update knowledge repositories such as business process manuals, smart metering configuration guides and system guides etc. By adopting a framework and focusing on these areas, utilities can effectively manage smart meter data, leading to improved operational efficiency, enhanced customer satisfaction, and better decision-making capabilities. #smartmeters #systemdesign #energymanagement #innovation #sustainability #alternativeenergy #smartgrid #digitalgrid #engineering #powersystems #powerandenergy #utilities #energy #smartcities #electricutilities #electricity #advancemeteringinfrastructure #bigdata #ai #artificialintelligence #digitaltransformation #machinelearning #smartmetering #smartmeters

🌍💡 A Sustainable Future Needs Transparent, Accessible Energy Data 💡🌍 In data centers, energy efficiency starts with the ability to see and understand energy consumption in real time. But all too often, energy data is siloed, fragmented, or just plain difficult to access—leading to missed opportunities for optimization. To change this, we need to prioritize data accessibility across all systems: EMS, BMS, and DCIMs. By creating a centralized, accessible data repository that provides actionable insights, facility managers and operators can catch inefficiencies early, respond to anomalies, and make continuous improvements. 🛠️ Accessible data empowers better decision-making, helping us reduce carbon footprints while boosting operational resilience. Let's make energy data not just a tool, but the foundation of every sustainable, high-performance data center. #Verdigris #DataDriven #EnergyManagement #BuildingManagement #DCIM #SustainableInfrastructure #FutureOfEnergy

How power-positive data centres can unlock AI’s potential while transforming communities Summary: Data centres supporting artificial intelligence (AI) currently consume about 4% of U.S. electricity, a figure expected to double by the end of the decade. Rather than viewing this as a strain on the aging electric grid, it presents an opportunity to revitalize infrastructure and transform communities through a three-part strategy: Hyper-Efficient Data Centres: Transitioning to purpose-built cooling systems like Johnson Controls' YVAM chiller can reduce cooling energy consumption by up to 78%. Implementing smart building software such as OpenBlue optimizes operations in real-time, cutting additional energy use by 5-15%. Community Energy Efficiency: Adopting a "power-positive" approach, data centres can invest in energy efficiency upgrades in surrounding communities—like schools and hospitals—to reduce overall grid demand. This not only frees up capacity but also enhances local infrastructure and reduces operating costs. Adding Renewable Energy Sources: Integrating renewable energy technologies—solar, wind, geothermal, and advanced options like fuel cells and small modular reactors—can meet or exceed the data centres' remaining electricity needs. Streamlining permitting processes is crucial for timely and cost-effective implementation. Collaboration among chip manufacturers, data centre operators, and HVAC experts is essential to drive advancements that reduce energy use and improve resilience. By embracing this holistic approach, data centres can unlock AI's potential while promoting sustainability, economic growth, and community well-being. #AI #DataCentres #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #CommunityDevelopment #Infrastructure https://lnkd.in/giqRnYei
