Always interesting to see a chart like this about event styles. While I'm a solid Gen X'er I'm definitely a Millennial/Gen Z Hybrid when it comes to events. It's important for event planners to consider the range of personalities when planning. #eventplanning #eventinsights

We are witnessing one of the biggest shifts ever in the event industry. Many are ignoring it. Or worse. They are fighting against it. Freeman shared how Millennials and Gen Z are replacing Gen X and Boomers as the most dominant attendee population. Yet legacy events are not built for these generations. Thanks for putting this together Julius Solaris! The shift toward Millennial and Gen Z attendees is undeniable, and it's reshaping how we design events from start to finish. As event professionals, we need to meet these generations where they are—embracing concise communication, interactive sessions, flexible schedules, and digital-first approaches. Ignoring these preferences risks alienating a significant segment of our audience and missing an opportunity to innovate. To add to your points, I think there's also a growing expectation for events to have a meaningful impact. These generations are passionate about wellness & sustainability, inclusivity, and purpose-driven content. They want more than just a traditional conference—they want experiences that resonate with their values and support their personal and professional growth. I agree we are really going to need to incorporate micro-learning and bite-sized sessions that cater to the modern attention span. Rather than resisting, we need to embrace these preferences and find creative ways to make them work for all generations. Thank you for highlighting this important shift. The future of our industry depends on our willingness to evolve! :)

I keep hearing that Gen Z is all about YOLO decisions, short-form videos, and fleeting trends—and honestly, I think that’s an oversimplification. Yes, they appreciate visually engaging moments and expect sustainability, but this generation is also deeply intentional. They value authenticity, purpose, and experiences that resonate on a deeper level. Rather than chasing trends, we should focus on designing events that are not only dynamic but meaningful—think authentic connections, purposeful content, and sustainable practices. It’s not just about grabbing their attention; it’s about earning their trust.

Now that I'm more plugged into the #events world again, I find this breakdown especially interesting. As a Millennial, this rings true to me personally, while I do have some strong Gen Z preferences in regards to wellness and sustainability. I also still happen to love an email update and tend to be an early planner. What about you? Anything to add to this list? Also very curious to know - what events have you been to recently that cater well to all three columns?

The generational shift in event attendees is reshaping the industry in ways we can’t afford to ignore. Millennials and Gen Z bring with them a different set of expectations—prioritizing experiences that are dynamic, inclusive, and tech-savvy. The days of rigid agendas and cumbersome registration processes are giving way to more streamlined, engaging formats that reflect how these generations interact with the world. It’s not just about keeping up with trends; it’s about rethinking the very fabric of what makes an event successful. Legacy frameworks need to evolve to meet attendees where they are—whether that’s shorter sessions for reduced attention spans, sustainable practices for environmentally conscious audiences, or integrating digital and hybrid elements that make experiences accessible. This shift is a wake-up call for all of us in the industry. To remain relevant, we need to embrace change, experiment with formats, and stay attuned to the voices of our attendees. After all, events aren’t just gatherings; they’re opportunities to build community and drive connection in meaningful, memorable ways.
