From invisible to invaluable: enhancing social worth in hybrid offices 💻 💡 Having the skills to do a particular job is no longer sufficient because our hybrid offices have made many of us invisible. 🗺️ When we don't have the luxury of proximity, it's easy to get left behind and feel lonely. Remote or hybrid employees must make more effort to actively participate in the company culture than people physically in the office. Our ability to partner with team members, network, and stay ripe for opportunities depends on the strength of our relationships and communication skills. 🏛️ Our worth in social capital determines our professional longevity. Earning social capital depends on our ability to work together effectively by having a shared set of values and working toward a common goal. We can sustain social capital with connection and relationship maintenance. Here are five pillars according to ALIZA LICHT. ⭐ Be gracious with our time: offer support, do something as a favor for someone when necessary. ⭐ Communicate strategically and with intention. Consider our timing and how our words connect with the reader, understanding who we are addressing. ⭐ Track our effort: as our relationships become increasingly complex, we can consider maintaining a spreadsheet of our networking interactions and referrals. ⭐ Stay on top of our inbox. Being a speedy responder shows people we are efficient and reliable, and if we are difficult to get in touch with, the opposite holds. ⭐ Be generous and practice gratitude: it's never too late to thank someone for an opportunity and it is also an underrated way to get back in touch. You can’t control every opportunity that comes your way, but you can control how prepared you are. Strong relationships keep doors open, even when you don’t know you’ll need them. A comment here, a thoughtful message there - it all adds up. Challenge for today: reach out to one person you haven’t spoken to in a while😊
Be thankful. Be generous. Be human.
Social capital is one of the rare forms of capital that multiplies through genuine connections and meaningful interactions. The more we invest in relationships and community building, the richer our network and influence in the team becomes.
Great insights! Being proactive in hybrid settings really boosts our visibility and value.
Making ourselves visible with hybrid work is “even” more difficult. Doing it with intention is a necessity. Thank you for reminding us Roberto
