Recent wildfires in Los Angeles County, including the wind-driven #HughesFire, have received a massive aerial fire suppression response. Over 60 aircraft, strategically assigned or pre-positioned across Southern California, have been working tirelessly to protect lives, property, and natural resources. Since January 7, 2025, these aircraft have delivered over 3.1 million gallons of water and nearly 600,000 gallons of retardant to combat six major wildfires. Under unified command, CAL FIRE, alongside, local, tribal, and federal partners, is leveraging every available resource to halt the spread of these wind-driven fires and protect our communities. In addition to the fixed-wing assets flying by day, night-qualified, water-dropping helicopters are in the air, allowing us to attack fires 24/7. We remain committed to keeping you informed. Stay alert, follow evacuation orders, and stay tuned for updates. #CALFIRE #HughesFire #WildfireResponse #UnifiedCommand #FireSuppression #EmergencyResponse #SoCal Joe Tyler Anale Burlew Nick Schuler, CFO, PIO

Good to see them matching solid performing water sources with the new larger copters.
When battling larger, faster-burning, and more frequent wildfires that are our reality, time matters to the second, precision matters to the foot, and volume of water matters to the gallon. Monday, we bolstered our wildfire firefighting arsenal with a dedicated helicopter water source, strategically located in Aliso Viejo. The result of the collaboration and support of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, the Aliso Viejo Community Association, the Moulton Niguel Water District, and the OCFA Board of Directors, this HeloPod is an example of what can happen when we work together for our communities, for the people we are sworn to serve, and the firefighters on the front lines. We are grateful for our partners who continue to support us as we mitigate the threat of wildfires to our communities and around California. #WildlandFirefighter #AirOps #Helicopter

In times of crisis, helicopters, like this Blackhawk are often the first responders on the scene, bringing speed, versatility, and access to the hardest-hit areas. During floods and disasters, they play a critical role in: ➡️ Aerial reconnaissance to assess damage, locate stranded individuals, and identify high-risk areas. ➡️ Rescue operations, reaching places where others can’t, evacuating people trapped by rising waters. ➡️ Delivering life-saving supplies, from food and water to medical aid, to isolated communities. ➡️Transporting first responders and emergency teams to areas in need, accelerating recovery efforts. We support public operations with our private expert operators and equipment, assisting overflow and professional teams in critical moment. How will Western Australia handle another intense bushfire season? The Cook Labor Government has allocated an extra $10.1 million to expand the state’s aerial firefighting fleet, adding two Black Hawk helicopters to its resources. These ex-military helicopters, each capable of carrying 4,500 liters of water, will provide rapid response to fires across the region for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Premier Roger Cook and Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson announced the initiative at the future site of the Cardup Career Fire and Rescue Service Station. Set to open in December, this $14.5 million facility will house 36 firefighters and modern firefighting equipment to support the growing southeast Perth corridor. Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson emphasized the importance of community readiness, urging residents to create bushfire plans ahead of the summer. Department of Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM warned of another challenging season, with early bushfires in October 2023 signaling the urgency of bolstered resources like the new Black Hawks. As WA’s bushfire risk intensifies, how do you think additional aerial support will impact the state’s firefighting efforts? Share your thoughts below! Watching the wildfires spread in Los Angeles is both heartbreaking and sobering. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this unspeakable tragedy. We’re also reminded of the bravery and dedication of first responders—firefighters on the ground and pilots flying “super scoopers” to drop water where it’s needed most. Currently, around 160 of these planes (Canadair CL-415, Bombardier 415, De Havilland Canada DHC-515) exist worldwide. This plane can scoop up approximately 6,000 liters (1,585 gallons) of water to drop on wildfires. De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited is the current manufacturer of these super scoopers (Now named the De Havilland Canadair 515). The Super Scooper is just one of the many manufactured ‘tools’ used by emergency responders worldwide to combat wildfires. This is why the #metalworkingnation is needed. This is why we need to inspire the next generation to get into #manufacturing. Because 160 is not enough. Emergency responders rely on manufacturers to save lives. If you’re working in a shop supporting these industries, know that your craftsmanship truly saves lives. For that, we want to #ThankAMachinist.

Night vision, new helicopters are pushing the frontiers of fighting wildfires in California https://lnkd.in/g2i78fBP previously I posted: Updated 7/23/24 Code Red 128 - For additional fire fighting equipment for California wildfires including modified planes for fire retardant drops only for large fires away from residential property or fire fighters Previously US DOD funds were used to modify planes to do large fire retardant drops. The code red is for that as well as other US military equipment (helicopters) that can do fire retardant drops. Once again, since some fire fighters had complained fire retardant had caused health issues for them, fire retardant drops can only be done away from fire fighters and not on residential areas. However water drops are okay. I also previously, posted due to high heat (above 100 in parts of California) the rotation for each fire fighter is 2 hours now meaning the fire fighter may only work for 2 hours & then must take a break & rotated with other fire fighter. Acceptable rotation may be from same crew that has not worked for 2 hours, fire fighter from other areas, US vet or active duty may only assist if they had been trained & have all the fire equipment needed for fighting. Nobody is allowed to touch down power lines. Only workers from the power company can touch down power lines. And I also previously posted: those who have been evacuated may be transported by US military or themselves to a safe place like a convention center where US military have set up cots, provide toiletry items, & MRE's if Catholic Charities, Red Cross, or volunteers have not made plans for food. for rest, open your facebook & click on link below... https://lnkd.in/gXH5qKrD
