Parliament inquiry into Australian ‘big box’ retailers - Have your say! On 14 August Parliament launched an inquiry into Australian ‘big box’ retailers to find out more about how they set prices and treat suppliers. From the Inquiry, we’re hoping that Bunnings will be included in the Food & Grocery Code of Conduct, or that a new Code protecting growers will be established. At the same time, the government has recommended that Greenlife Industry Australia (GIA) and Bunnings work together to agree on an Industry Framework that sets out the rules between Bunnings and suppliers. The Scottish government last week announced a new consultation on outlawing the use of cages to house hens involved in egg production. As a critical part of our local economy, support is essential for business.

Shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that supermarkets are throwing out expiring food big time and it's simply a better business to throw expiring food than to sell it at reduced price. Here's an excellent example how Lidl Denmark is selling salmon expiring today with a 25% discount. 25% discount on something that is highly likely to end in Lidl's dumpsters by the end of the day. This practice should be illegal on EU level, or at least national level, yet France is currently the only country in the world that has regulations against it.

Lidl to invest £21 billion in British food industry amid new initiatives 🚜 Multi-Quality Food Awards-winner, Lidl GB, has announced a substantial increase in its investment in the British food industry, committing £21 billion to support local farmers and enhance food production, coinciding with its 30th anniversary in the UK.
