BCHS is proud to play a small role in addressing the rising issue of food insecurity through a partnership with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue program. Second Harvest captures food before it goes to waste and redirects it to non-profits and social service agencies, which helps provide communities in need with nutritious meals. This initiative by Compass One Healthcare has resulted in the donation of over 2,000 meals since May 2024 to local organizations like the Brantford Blessing Centre. These donated meals are the same that would be served to patients, that for various reasons go uneaten at the hospital. We are grateful for the ongoing support of our community, and proud that we can also give back. 🌟 1 Week Update: Instant Noodle Cup Drive 🌟 Wow, what a fantastic first week it's been for our Instant Noodle Cup Drive at Sandgate Bottle & Can Exchange! We've been overwhelmed by the generosity and support from our incredible community. Here are some highlights from the past seven days: 🍜 Cup Contributions: We've had numerous customers dropping by to donate cups of noodles, spreading warmth and kindness with each donation. A special shoutout to one generous soul who donated a whopping 24 cups to help us fill our bin! 💰 Financial Support: Alongside cup donations, many of you have also generously contributed money towards purchasing more cups. In just the first week, our amazing customers donated a total of $220! This incredible support allowed us to purchase over 200 additional cups of noodles yesterday alone. 🎉 Guessing Game: Now, here's a fun challenge for you all! During our last community kitchen event, something remarkable happened. As we were distributing meals, we unexpectedly ran out of takeaway packs. Rushing to a nearby store to get more, we met Olamilekan a food vendor. Instead of accepting payment, Olamilekan chose to donate the packs to us. He was deeply moved by our efforts, something he had never seen in his community before, and wanted to be a part of it. Even if he was selling food , he didn’t feel uncomfortable about us giving out food around him. We salute Olamilekan’s generosity and his willingness to support his community. Now, imagine a world filled with more people like Olamilekan—where sharing and giving back are the norms, and everyone has enough to eat. This vision is within our reach, but it starts with each of us. Be like Olamilekan. As most event organizers know, food allocation can be a balancing act. While we always aim to ensure every guest is well-fed, there’s often a surplus at the end of the event. In today’s world, where food waste is a pressing issue, it’s more important than ever to find ways to make a positive impact with what’s left. At our recent event that we hosted with MIDLANDS AEROSPACE ALLIANCE, we were thrilled to donate leftover pork baps to a local charity. This small act of kindness not only helped reduce waste but also provided a meaningful contribution to those in need within our community.
